The Too Much TV Roundup- May 16th

Despite actually having to work at my job yesterday (Yes, i still have one of those), I still managed to knock out a fair amount of programming. Who earned the top spot from this random assortment?

1) Bridgerton (Netflix)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

You know, i never quite commend Bridgerton for all the great audio description, but this is top notch. Lots of comments about heaving bosoms, which when you think about how many watch this program for the escapist romantic entanglements, makes a certain kind of description really appropriate. Plus, with such a wide ensemble, I somehow never have a problem tracking these characters, and what they are all up to, which is a credit to both the writers and the audio description. This was Episode 5 for me, and part of me actually doesn’t want them to go the easy route here with Anthony and Kate, because her sister really just doesn’t deserve to be put through all that. Wonder how the next three episodes will pan out.

Episode Grade: A

2) Last Week Tonight (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description: I think if you wait a long time, you’ll get it. I’ve heard it on the show before, but not if you actually like your news/current events actually… current.

This week, John Oliver gave an illuminating look at our nations dependency on monopolies for our power grid. It’s fairly non-partisan, as we all need electricity, so if you don’t normally watch him, this might be something to actually watch. especially if you live in California.

Episode Grade: A

3) The Equalizer (CBS/Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

It was a little sappy in parts, but otherwise this was a killer season finale, that left us with a cliffhanger that I’m sure will resolve itself just fine. But, damn that is one hell of a way to make your audience wait until fall. i usually don’t watch criminal procedurals, but somehow this show has straddled just enough to make me stay interested.

Episode Grade: A-, Season 2 Grade: B+

4) American Idol (ABC/hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: No

I still think Christian should have made the finale. But maybe I’m biased toward singers who have to overcome a specific adversity. But he could also really sing. But, if we’re being honest, this season has always belonged to Hunter Girl, who I’m sure is already recording her debut album secretly on the side. I would have put it higher, but I also wouldn’t have picked that final three, nor would I have picked that theme for Round 2. We get so little time with these kids now, it would have been better to get new songs than just a second chance at something already done.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Jeopardy (Syndication)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Our champ seems like a nice guy, but I don’t know that he’s quite at the top of his game. I’d be surprised if he won again. I managed, yet again, 22/60, and I missed final Jeopardy. My mom mentioned Mud Island in Memphis, and my brain went there, but of course… I should have realized what the answer was.

Episode Grade: B

6) The Golden Girls (Hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: No

The girls need to turn their garage into a spare bedroom, though they can’t find an affordable contractor, so Sophia brings in an elderly Italian man. Comedy ensues. Oh, and Rose’s new boyfriend gets boring really fast.

Episode Grade: B

7) The Boys Presets: Diavolical (Amazon)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

It’s funny that this show that was so great telling off the wall stories set in the universe produced its least interesting, or at least, least funny entry for its finale, though also the one that was actually close to the real series. We got a look at Homelander’s past, and how he came to be. And yet, that wasn’t quite as awesome as it sounds. overall, i do hope they pick the show up for a second season. This has been a great format, and companion series to The Boys.

Episode Grade: B-, Season 1 Grade: B+

8) This Is Us (NBC/Peacock)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Kevin did some stuff this week. I still didn’t care. It’s amazing how one choice, to break up Kate and Toby ruined an entire series Dafoe me. I almost feel like if they were back together in the finale, I’d have to rewatch the entire season because I’ve been so checked out this whole time. I’m literally just kind of watching/hate watching this, on the offside chance they get back together and the world is right again. If not, I will never watch this show again.

Episode Grade: C (Because the acting is always on point)

9) Fear The Walking Dead (AMC)

English Audio Description?: No

These shows need audio description. I really am done with this. I don’t even pay attention anymore. They jump around so much, and the only reason I’m still watching are for the characters that originated in the mothership series. So, if Morgan or Dwight or Sherry aren’t on screen, i actually just let it run in the background, so I don’t even know what’s happening most of the time. For a minute, this show was excellent. It’s now officially a walker that needs to be put down.

Episode Grade: D+
