June is now over. How did I wrap up the month?
1) Breeders (FX/Hulu)
English Audio Description Available?: No
I my continued journey to get Martin Freeman an Emmy nomination for his work on Breeders, after finally working his way back into the house, he suffers a back injury. This gets him some pain meds that lead to some very interesting behavior and an honest conversation with Luke, but when they wear off, ultimately Paul heads to the doctor… and we are left with a cliffhanger. Freeman’s work on this show is consistently darkly hilarious while also having a ton of dramatic weight. It’s the best role he’s ever played, and the Emmy voters refuse to watch this show.
Episode Grade: A
2) The Marvelous Ms Maisel (Amazon)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
Yes, I’m still finishing this last season. Suzy got a new office, and you might think that Alex Borstein stole the show this episode, or even Rachel Brosnahan as Midge tried to put the strip club in better working order. No, this episode goes to Tony Shaloub, who upon hearing that his best friend (Jason Alexander) dated his wife 35 years ago, goes scorched earth in his FBI testimony. Hell hath no fury.
Episode Grade: A
3) Night Sky (Amazon)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
In the second episode, we learn really nothing more about the mysterious man, who calls himself Jude. Mainly because you get the constant impression that he is lying. At the end of the episode, he’s stumbling away. Maybe for good? The only thing I didn’t like was that the second episode revealed another family with the same portal under their house. So, our family isn’t so special after all. It’s a reveal that didn’t work for me. Either set up the premise by including the other family at the end of the first episode, or keep it just focused on the one family. Expanding to a second family in the second episode is an odd choice, because most shows present a pilot, which makes this feel more like an afterthought, rather than the initial intended plan.

4) Full Frontal With Samantha Bee (TBS)
English Audio Description Available?: no
I just knocked off the last available episode so i could finally be up to date instead of watching her talk about old news every week.
Episode Grade: A-
5) under The Banner of Heaven (Hulu)
English Audio Description Available?: No
The lack of audio description available couldn’t hide the intensity of the 3rd episode of the series, which faced some tough flashbacks, and continues to give Andrew Garfield quite a range for a show that, to this point, is basically just one long interrogation.
Episode Grade: B+
6) Pacific Rim: The Black (Netflix)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
I was loving this show, until it showed me more of the sisters… then… well…
Episode Grade: C
7) Close Enough (HBo MAX)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
I might have to give up on this after this season. I don’t know what’s going on with the third season, but it’s not as funny or strong as the first two. This has truthfully never been one of my favorites, but I’ve liked it enough to get to season 3. But I don’t think I’ll be back for Season 4.
