The Too Much TV Roundup- July 8th

Started to take a look at a new game show today. Ooof. Wait for my thoughts on that dumpster fire.

1) The Boys (Amazon)

English AudioD description Available?: Yes

Duh. Of course the season finale was going to make my top slot. RIP (Spoiler). What a way to finish an insane season. I can’t wait to see where this show is headed next year. It’s truly a shame that some of these actors can’t ever possibly get recognized for their work at the Emmy’s because there’s really no category for this show. Sure, it was nominated in drama… but is it? Karl Urban and Antony Starr deserve some love. Although, with the new revelations at the end, one wonders how many more seasons of The boys we will be getting.

Episode Grade: A

2) Undone (Amazon)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

In the third episode of the season, the sisters travel to Mexico to find their AWOL mother, and learn some secrets along the way. For people who think there aren’t enough great science fiction shows on TV right now, between Outer Range, undone, and night Sky, Amazon is really trying to prove that wrong.

Episode Grade: A

3) Bosch Legacy (Free Vee)

English Audio Description Available?: No

In the 9th episode of the season, we got dumped a very heavy cliffhanger. I’m sure it will all be OK. Right? RIGHT????

Episode Grade: A-

4) Angeline (Peacock)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Now that Angeline has moved away from wanting to be a rockstar, I feel like the show started to get going a bit. She found a guy who could be convinced to buy the billlboardds for her. I love how the episode plays their relationship pretty straight forward, but in the cut away interviews people assumed they were sleeping together, even though they never go remotely near that place during the scenes. It’s all about perception.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Roar (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

A girl who has been murdered investigates her own murder in the most interesting way possible. Then, when you get down to the end, you have the realization of what Roar has done in every episode. It’s fucking crazy. This anthology series is likely criminally under seen. I didn’t get the cast list for the episode, but I’m 95% sure that was Alison Brie.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Generation Gap (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: Honestly, I forgot to check.

I just kind of put this on to see what it was, on a lark. And it ended up being so obnoxious. I forced myself through one full episode, but I cared so little I actually forgot to even attempt to put the AD track on. Two teams, a grandparent and a child, are pitted against each other. now, instead of doing it in a way where you would think based on the premise that it was old vs young, no. Even though that’s how the questions are structured, the families stay on the same team, so the questions are designed to put the generations against each other, but it’s really two different families against each other.

Then, a special guest came on. Of course, it was Ryan Seacrest, making me believe this episode had no budget. Later, Kelly Ripa (the host) brings out her father to sing a song off key and have people guess what it is. But it’s only one song, so it could be from either generation, which makes no sense.

Then, the show just totally shits the bed by having the grand prize being chosen by the youngest member of the family. In this case, the 5 year old younger brother of the kid competing. It’s up to him to choose the prize they walk away with for all their hard earned work. Will he pick the new car? Or the scooter, that is designed as a child’s dream? Hmmm. I wonder. Next week, I’m sure a 4 year old will hav to choose between a week in the Bahamas, or a Barbie dream house.

This show is a perfect example of taking a good concept, a trivia battle between two different generations, and fucking it up so bad, I’d rather just turn the TV off for an hour.

Final Grade: F
