Yesterday… I watched Night Sky… and it didn’t try to send me into another episode, and it was no longer in my continue watching. Today, it’s in my continue watching. I’m so confused. Did I finish that the other day? I guess, I’ll find out next week… when I try to finish it again? Anyway, pretty sure I did finish another show, but I’m going to not say which one because my world is upside down.
1) the Marvelous Ms maisel (Amazon)
English Audio Description? Yes
I do believe, and I don’t want to jinx it, that I’m all caught up now. The drama with Joel’s dad is behind us, and the best thing came from Lenny’s monologue to Midge about being a comic. She has some idea in her head, and he just blew it wide open. I kind of felt like her turning down Tony Bennett was a bit stupid as well, and I’m glad that no one in her life thought that was a solid call. Lenny’s truth bomb really set her mind hopefully on a path. The silliest part is that she turned down the gig when she has no more work, because the strip club was raided. So she could have used the money. She is an incredibly frustrating lead character at times. Luckily, her supporting cast is everything. Great work this episode from her ensemble.

2) Rutherford Falls (Peacock)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
My favorite parts of this episode seemed to all revolve around Nathan, either not realizing that her brother was just getting a free 20 dollars every time and it wasn’t really an inside joke, or him bursting out of the coffin in the middle of a service, or Nathan exiting a conversation in the most awkward way possible… “because I’m white”. The twist at the end of the episode did nothing for me, as I don’t trust this show enough to actually do anything with that.

3) The umbrella Academy (Netflix)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
Proving that I don’t just always put this show on a pedestal, this episode filled in a lot of extra time by showing us where Lyla was for a while (like anyone cared) and where she got the now dead kid. I definitely didn’t think that this world ending thing could be contained by Christopher, so that wasn’t a surprise. I had no connection to this version of Grace, so Five needing to kill her off did nothing for me. I know my friends think Allison did a bad bad thing, but she has a point, and then Five’s speech about trying to add up the bodies is pointless. They’ve all done bad shit, and it doesn’t necessarily cancel out just because they do some good shit too. Meanwhile, Klaus kept dying to master his power of… dying. An odd episode, but things are not going to end well. With only two sparrows remaining, I think Luther is about to have his heart broken. Notice how the googleplex thing doesn’t ever take anyone from Umbrella? I bet there’s a reason for that.

4) Under the Banner Of Heaven (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
I definitely did finish this, with that cinematically long final episode. I’m pretty sure at least. It felt resolved. Look, it’s hard to fully embrace a show without audio description that is made in a way where there are time jumps all over the place, and a very large cast. Also, a lot of quiet moments. I pushed through, because there was a lot of stuff here and I felt like I was learning something, and the acting was great, but if I was en emmy voter… the lack of audio description would have cost this show my vote. And don’t you think there is at least one, if not a few visually impaired voters out there? Just saying…
Episode Grade: B
5) DB Cooper Where Are You? (Netflix)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
This 4 part docuseries is behind me. Thank God. This should have been a movie. The last episode was barely over 30 minutes. You’re telling me no editor could have put this into a tight two hours? Just because Netflix is looking for docuseries doesn’t mean every documentary needs to extend itself into episodic content. I think overall, start to finish, this thing is under 3 hours, and a good editor would have gotten this to about two.
