The Too Much TV Roundup- October 9th

A lot of shows fighting for the top. only one can have it. It was a though fight this week.

1) The Sandman (Netflix)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

The Sandman wraps officially its 1st season (Yes, I’m still putting positive energy out into the world), and with a finale that wrapped everything up in fine form, I can see where we’ve been and the ride I enjoyed, but also see the groundwork laid for next season.Hopefully Netflix steps up and gives this a shot.

Episode Grade: A, Season 1 (without the bonus episode): A-

2) The Good Fight (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Everyone except Carmen had an interesting storyline it seemed. Whether it was Marissa being told her life was in danger from an anti semitic group, and her and Jay working to make sure she’s safe, to the worst family in the world suing each other before a baby comes, or Liz wondering whether or not that really is Ginny Thomas on the other end of the phone, this was a solid episode.

Episode Grade: A

3) Abbott Elementary (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I always end up pushing this as late in my week as needed, because I know ABC isn’t cancelling this show. It’s far too hot right now, and my viewership can be a few days late in the metrics. Better question is, have you checked out Abbott Elementary yet? If not, why?

Episode Grade: A

4) Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

It got me in the feels this week with the return of Bumpy. With Kenji and his evil clan roaming the island, I was so worried about what would happen when they found Bumpy, but Kenji kept him from being used as a zombie dino, so maybe there’s hope for him yet. oh, and someone finally got eaten by dinosaurs. I know its a kids show, but that has to happen every once in a while.

Episode Grade: A

5) Beavis and Butthead (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The show that always makes me laugh my face off. This week, I really loved the segment where Butt-head was on medication. I think it would have been funny if Beavis had taken it too, since he kept wanting to at the beginning. Hilarious as always.

Episode Grade: A

6) The Patient (hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I’m not really sure what episode this was anymore, but this show has picked up audio description for me for every episode I’ve been watching weekly since the first two. It’s like the reverse of What We Do In the Shadows Season 4. This episode was going a lot of places, but in that final moment, Steve Carell got his “For your Consideration” moment, though something tells me that since this show isn’t over yet, there will be another.

Episode Grade: A

7) Sprung (Free Vee)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Yes, this Free Vee offering has audio description, but I’m just not a fan of Greg Garcia. his shows always seem to have a few moments of charm, but they always highlight people in extreme poverty, like My Name Is earl or raising Hope. He’s just making versions of the same show. This one, in the pilot, had the benefit of being able to make some good Covid jokes, but that will wear old fast. There wasn’t much about the actual plot of the series that made me want to watch long term, and honestly the sound for the program sounded like it was degrading, or they used budget equipment. There was this sort of muffled quality to the show, like it didn’t have a proper budget, but it has a real cast featuring Garrett Dillahunt. very odd. Sorry, I won’t be coming back. But for those of you wanting something free with audio description, here you go.

Episode Grade: C

8) Saturday Night Live (NBC)E

Mulish Audio Description?: No

I actually fast forwarded through portions of this. I love Brendan Gleeson. I hope he gets an Oscar nomination. He’s extremely undervalued. He’s also not funny. The best sketches didn’t feature him, like the opening scene, and Weekend Update. I thought the new cast member skit was OK, and Gleeson was best used as the 67 year old high schooler. But a lot of these sketches didn’t work.

Episode Grade: C-
