The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/25/23

Well, after intense pressure, Jeopardy pushed back the Tournament Of Champions they were planning to do without their writing staff, who are currently on strike. So, good for them. I also happened to look ahead at August, which broke my heart. Why are all the best shows ending this year? Breeders, Reservation Dogs, and Archer all return for their final seasons in August.

8) American Born Chinese (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

The scene between Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Szu was the best moment, but this show still feels so disconnected with these different storylines, and how they don’t really mesh. I love Jinn, but I feel like his whole thing is a different show. Meanwhile, all the stuff about the fourth scroll is another. And I’m still waiting to see how this old TV show fits in.

7) Home Improvement (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Brad got dumped by Angela, but is on the rebound, and in the same episode meets a girl (a college girl) and gets engaged, and his parents are worried. Part of me saw the wisdom in what Randy said about the double standard. Guys date younger girls all the time. Also, in this scenario, Brad is a Junior in high School dating a Junior in College. He’s 17, she’s 21. So, she’s roughly the same age as the women who just popped some babies out for Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. A silly conversation to be had. But, the 90’s. I remember when Cory and Topanga were going to get married before graduating high school on Boy Meets World. The 90’s were all about life lessons, and Brad eventually learns he’s still too young for the married life.

6) Nora From Queens (MAX)

Status: Unknown

Nora has some sort of mental break and sees various versions of what her life could have been, and then meets herself. But, like… herself. Nora meets Aquafina, and then the episode ends. Dun, dun, dun.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Currently Running

Raylon gets caught up in a cliffhanger shootout. i wonder… will they kill him off? Oh wait. He’s in the sequel revival. So, this has zero suspense. And also, I can’t see who is shooting who, a pervasive problem for this show, meaning it topped off again.

Episode Grade: B+

4) All In The Family (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

After watching the Wonder Years episode about Blockbusting, it’s odd that the next episode for me was Archie trying to keep a second black family from moving into the neighborhood. The Jeffersons are still around, meaning their spinoff hasn’t hit yet.

Episode Grade: A-

3) The Witcher (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Garolt is trying to find a genie in a bottle, so he can rub her the right way obviously. This goes horribly awry. He is then put on a path that leads him to Yennifer, and their weird relationship begins. Meanwhile, nefarios forces seek “the girl”.

Episode Grade: A-

2) The Bear (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: It Will Be Renewed If It Isn’t Already

It’s amazing how little was accomplished in one episode, yet because the second episode takes place a bit after the first, the renovations have started. A minor time jump. Two of the cast are in culinary school, but they also find mold in the walls. Why was there a dodgeball in the ceiling? For safe keeping?

Episode Grade: A-

1) Platonic (Apple plus)

Sylvia screws up her new job. Then again, she really came in hot with that comment about masturbating in the bathroom. And on the other side, who makes beer that expensive? And then, takes a hit on it just to look cool?
