The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/03/23

I forgot Spectrum was Charter, so watching the people in my Facebook feed complaining about not being able to watch their games yesterday was fun. Hilariously, they all blamed Spectrum, and not ESPN. It’s sort of like the studios don’t realize how many people in this country are against them in the strike. They try to make it seem like an A-list actor wants more money, but most people know not to trust the CEO with the mega yacht.

11) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Just Finished

I’m close to finishing Season 3. This is a really hard catch up without audio description. There were many moments I didn’t know what was going on, or even who was talking on screen. I surmised that Raylon’s boss wanted him to go arrest the guy who threatened him, but that was not the focus of the episode. There are still these things going on with a potential new Sheriff in town that I’m trying to follow. If you want to try and catch up on Justified, beware. it’s a bitch without AD.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

10) Adventure Time (MAX)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I did decide to finally see what this show was all about. I think I need to warm up to its charms, but I know this was a cultural phenomenon. This show single handedly kept hot Topic open. So, with MAX having just released another spinoff, I figured why not at least try and see what the original was about? It was fine. I’m not sure what I expected. I’ll stick with it for a while. The episodes are short.

9) Clarissa Explains It All (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Clarissa has an aggressively Canadian aunt who is staying with her who she feels like is cramping her style. I love that Clarissa and her friends are watching some horror films with the silliest titles. Dances With Werewolves. Hah.

Episode Grade: B

8) Winning Time (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I’d say unlikely to be renewed, as the creator has been begging for viewers online. I was surprised this got a second season to begin with, but we’re back, and john C Reilly wants a title. Too bad Magic blew out his knee. What are the Lakers gonna do with magic needing time off to heal?

7) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Sam has to take a trip and leave the bar in someone’s hands. It’s that beginning scene where he’s trying to figure out who to choose that really drags. Otherwise, once Woody takes over, there is some fun to be had in his ex-girlfriend who recently dumped him coming by for a visit, so he uses Sam’s little black book to call one of his female friends. He ends up calling Sam’s maid for a date.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Smash (Roku)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Aside from getting to hear Christian Borle sing, not too much happened on the music front. Karen is made understudy when the new movie star they hired doesn’t show up, and Julia is still trying to get her husband to talk to her.

Episode Grade: B+

5) The Wheel Of Time (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed?

The characters from last season are all now training. I had some problems with this episode. it was weird when Egwein’s teacher tried to seduce her. It’s odd that Amazon ends the first episode on a cliffhanger of whether or not a character dies, and then launches into a promo for the rest of the season that features that character. I would have ended the season premiere when they talk about how sad it is that Rand is dead, which immediately cuts to seeing him alive. That felt like the natural place to end… but we kept going. So, it felt longer than necessary. The audio description needs to realize that it’s been a while between seasons, and I legit forgot what some things look like. Don’t just tell me a fade is attacking. Assume I have amnesia and need a refresher. It’s not like a fade exists in real life. I’m glad the show is back, but I wanted more from this.

Episode Grade: B+

4) X-Men (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

My nostalgia button was hit so many times. Not only was this the second appearance of Cable, but it ws the episode where the cure is announced, but it is really just Mystique working for Apocalypse. First appearances of Pyro, Avalanche, and Angel.

3) Young Sheldon (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Wallace Shawn is sticking around, and I’m OK with that. He ends up spending the night with MeeMaw, much to Sheldon’s delight. Meanwhile, Sheldon’s dad and his sister hang out and eat some lobster.

2) One Piece (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I had no idea what the anime was about, so i can’t say how close to the series this is. However, this is absolutely bonkers, and I’m enjoying the hell out of it. The main actor is having some problems delivering his dialogue, and I know there’s a language barrier there, but it’s not a great performance. The show around him is so unique that I honestly don’t care. it’s like I see it, and I acknowledge it, but I was not expecting this at all.

1) Beavis and Butthead (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Please God, Let This Be Renewed

I just need this show in my life. I’ve been spacing out the episodes, because I’m guaranteed a few laughs. This show is the only show right now where I can testify that I laugh so hard tears come out sometimes. Not only was the story with Tom Anderson hilarious, but I was dying when the robots kept delivering Beavis and Butthead cheese. Also, I loved seeing them make fun of Post Malone. All around, this episode worked for me from weird sandwich costume to burning warehouse end.
