Welcome to Spooky Season, where I will be stepping up your coverage of the scariest and spookiest films to watch this season. But for today, it’s just a regular old roundup.
14) The Continental (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited
From the minds of people who never watched the original John Wick franchise comes a boring show with little to no action sequences and more dialogue in one episode than in the entire John Wick universe. I hate this show.
Episode Grade: D+
13) The Summer I Turned Pretty (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Renewed
I’m not really sure why I’m still watching this show. Belly and Steven’s mom shows up, first being incredibly judgmental, but then changing her tune when she finds out why they were there. So, we get more backstory about Aunt Julia, who is still an incredibly unlikable character that the writers think can be redeemed through a few lines of backstory and her finally caving on selling the house. The two brothers still can’t seem to figure out which one of them wants belly more. I think I’m watching this to try and figure out why this is so popular. I really just want Taylor to move somewhere else so I can watch a show with just her.
Episode Grade: C
12) My Adventures With Superman (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Unknown
Another show I’m not sure why I haven’t quit yet. It’s not funny or over the top enough like Harley Quinn, nor is it aggressively strong in the dramatic department. tonally, I’ve been trying to figure out who this show is for, and I can’t figure it out.
Episode Grade: C+
11) Clarissa Explains It All (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Clarissa wants to be Jane Pauley, but also there’s a subplot with her mom getting involved in a life that could have been when she runs into an old college roommate, which allows Clarissa and Ferguson to eat junk food for once. At least the happiness they show in those moments totally tracks.
Episode Grade: B-
10) 8 Simple Rules (Disney plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
The neighbors come over for dinner, and they are a bit much, but end up inviting our clan to an upcoming wedding. There are also jokes about Rory playing a woman in a school play, but no real substance.Pretty sure John Ratzenberger plays the dad from the neighbor family.
Episode Grade: B-
9) All Rise (OWN)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Final Season
There were a couple little moments where the lack of audio description failed me, but those were mostly moments that surprised me that someone was in a room. Nothing that really destroyed the plot, like the Season Premiere, where lives were on the line, and I had to Google who died.
Episode Grade: B
8) Alf (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Alf is accused of eating Lucky, who is missing. He knows he didn’t, so he sets out to prove his innocence.
Episode Grade: B
7) Foundation (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Unknown
I think I’m finally starting to understand this show as war inches closer. However, this woman who is a telepath seems over powered. I feel like Day doesn’t even know she can kick his butt.
Episode Grade: B+
6) The Office (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Michael isn’t invited to a party, and he knows this, because he’s spying on everyone’s personal interactions on their computers. The scenes with michael at his improv class were silly.
Episode Grade: B+
5) The Golden Girls (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Ended
Dorothy runs into the man who should have been her prom date, but stood her up. He turns out to be a pretty nice guy, and Dorothy would like to get her Prom Night on. But Sophia disapproves.
Episode Grade: B+
4) Smash (Roku)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
As we near the production, Derek will sleep with anything that moves, Julia is fighting for her marriage still, Tom is making dinner with Sam’s parents awkward, and Karen isn’t ready for a marriage proposal.
Episode Grade: B+
3) Deadlocked (Showtime)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited
This docuseries chronicles the important decisions of the Supreme Court, and the justices who made them. It’s pretty good, but the audio description mixing isn’t great. The sound level was lower than it probably should have been. The actual written narration was good though, and this does a good job of navigating through the talking heads and archival footage.
Episode Grade: A-
2) Breeders (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Final Season
no assholes in the group means you might be the asshole.Though, I think Luke’s reaction to his mom not telling these friends she hasn’t seen in forever that Luke is having a baby was a bit of a stretch.Episode Grade: A-

1) The Morning Show (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Renewed?
An email leaks that shows Sybil as being racist, and reveals the network pays their black employees less. This is a great introduction to Chris Hunter, who took over for Bradley, and happens to be black. I kinda wish her big four minutes had been written by Aaron Sorkin, because I feel like she could have dropped a lot of knowledge and statistics, but it was still quite effective. I did love how she ended it with “You are absolutely right. We will move on from institutional racism after the break.” Damn. Oddly, Bradley wasn’t featured. It was also nice to see Sybil get the axe, as she tried to pretend to be Alex’s friend in the last episode, but we totally saw her stab Alex in the back. Bye, Sybil.
