Well, I said, and I’ll say it again, the post-strike cancellation wave is still bashing us. It likely will take a break for Turkey Day, but not before Disney Plus could axe The Muppets Mayhem. In fact, on the film side, rumor has it that they are trying to sell off The Bike Riders. Not sure why, as that played fairly well at the festivals, but whatever. in other cancellation news, Melissa Barrera was fired from the new Scream 7 for having the audacity to tweet. No apologies required, the Scream franchise has so many surviving characters alive right now, they can make a film without her. Honestly, Jenna Ortega is becoming the bigger star anyway. Time for her to be the sister at the center I suppose.
Who knows. Maybe they’ll finally pay Nevé Campbell what she’s worth.
1) All The Light We Cannot See (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited
I just wanted so much more from this series that had a blind female lead at the center, and a project that put such a focus on audio description by having an AD intro available just for people like me. But, as the series wraps, it just has Shawn Levy all over it. It never got really to the dramatic weight it needed, constantly being broken up by episode, and features a bizarre accent from the typically terrific Mark Ruffalo. The plot was kind of silly, the resolution didn’t do much for me other than the fact we know how history is laid out, and I can’t help but believe that this project in another director’s hands would have been so much better. James Newton Howard’s score is fire though.
Episode Grade: B., Series Grade: B
2) The Changeling (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited
In the shortest episode yet, there’s a monster on the island, and Apollo and the mothers and kids must escape. I assume that’s not the end, as it would be a very weird final episode, especially considering how short it is. I think it was under 30 minutes.
Episode Grade: B-
3) Doom Patrol (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Final Season
The gang is stuck in a fake dimension where they are celebrating a holiday that doesn’t exist, until they finally start realizing what’s missing. It’s basically the Doom Patrol musical you didn’t know you needed in your life, but you’re now happy to have.
Episode Grade: A
4) Pain Killer: The Tylenol Murders (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited
The second episode dives into how the investigation looked over multiple suspects, and found some wild shit, but not necessarily the person responsible for putting cyanide into the Tylenol bottles. This is why they tell you now to make sure your tamper proof label has not been tampered with.
Episode Grade: A-
5) Krapopolis (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No

FOX’s newest toon had a nice little guest voice appearance by Will Forte as a guy who just really wanted to wear pants.
Episode Grade: B-
6) Heroes (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
It’s sad that Peacock doesn’t have audio description on Save The Cheerleader Save The World, but this begins my second time through the series. With stars like Milo Ventmiglia, Hayden Panettiere, and Zachary Quinto, this hit series is fun to try and piece together as someone who has seen this before. Sadly, if I was talking to someone looking to go at it the first time, there are so many things that earned this an unwatchable grade. Masi Oka’s performance in the pilot is entirely subtitled, as are the characters he comes in contact with. There’s a pivotal scene with Milo’s character that ends up revealing his brother instead. Hayden also has things going on that need to be either described or seen. There’s a hero who can paint the future. Lots of reasons this show wouldn’t work for a first timer without audio description.
Episode Grade: Unwatchable
7) Fleabag (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Ended
Fleabag attends an event with her sister, and of course not everything goes according to plan. Fleabag tries to make the most of it, and there are moments here where she and Claire seem to be starting to get along. Starting.

8) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Cory gets nervous about an upcoming make-out party, but he’s paired with Topanga, so this is the episode where they bang and then the spinoff Girl Meets World happens. No, never mind. Cory can’t kiss Topanga, due to the pressure, but later on… a different story. One of my favorite couples in TV history.
Episode Grade: B+
9) The First Wives Club (BET Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Unknown
I love how I get three months of BET Plus for 99 cents, and the series I choose to start with is finishing off the First Wives Club show, then Netflix picks up the damn thing. Neither service has cared enough to put audio description on what is actually a pretty entertaining ensemble comedy.
Episode Grade: B
10) Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Throwing away the plot of this Buffy Vs Fraternity episode, there’s still a lot here that could have used audio description as Buffy and Cordelia try not to become sacrifices for attending a frat party. Also, even little things, like Willow pointing out Angel’s lack of reflection.
Episode Grade: unwatchable
11) iZombie (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Thought I might finally take a look at this Rose McIver starring CW show and let my mind wander to the simpler times when The CW made shows that didn’t suck, and weren’t just acquisitions from other countries. I’m not going to say this is a great pilot, as the show seems high concept, and is rushing to get through all the necessary rules and information in a short period of time. However, in order to understand the way this show works, as someone coming in cold, audio description would help with the whole zombie angle, and eating brains. Like, how does this really happen? I’ll try this for a little while. I’ve had shows harder to watch before, and this one has a lot of internal thoughts that help flesh out the story.
Episode Grade: Unwatchable
12) Doug (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Still doing my nostalgia thing. This season 2 episode of Doug was pretty Judy heavy, as the first half was about her directing Doug’s play, and the second half was about Roger having a crush on her.
Episode Grade: B
13) The Addams Family (MGM Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
The classic sitcom has an episode that explores Gomez and Morticia being worried about Pugsley because he seems to be interested in normal kid things. They even hire a specialist.

14) Silicon Valley (MAX)

After making a choice about investor, the company now has to figure out what their business plan is, and who is essential in the group. TJ Miller does some great work here as a total buffoon. It’s very much his schtick.
Episode Grade: A-
15) Portlandia (AMC Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
I really would normally give this unwatchable, because of the way sketch comedy works, and how visual it is. but, there’s a sketch that plays at least through half of the episode, as they keep coming back to it, that is all about setting up a new cell phone plan, and I thought that was hilarious. Also, the sketch where they keep asking each other if they read a certain thing was equally well done, and the humor was in the text. This might be one of the few episodes that is listenable.
Episode Grade: B+
16) The Critic (Tubi)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Jay hits his 1000th show and then is fired, and has to reexamine how he got into film criticism. This is a long and arduous journey, of course, in the process having him teach English For Cab Drivers.A very underrated 90’s animated sitcom, that I’m just happy to see alive on Tubi right now.
Episode Grade: B+
