FUBAR- Tom Arnold is giving me hope that if he can stick around, and if Jamie Lee Curtis swings by a third season of this show, or even later in the season, we will get our unofficial True Lies reunion. he is not a good actor, but I always loved him in true Lies, and seeing him pop up in FUBAR warmed my heart for a show that has been very mid.
The Sandman- We’re back, despite the odds (and the behind the scenes scandals). the first episode is uniquely great because it introduces and sets up a new story that isn’t heavy on you remembering what happened in Season 1. I loved the descriptions in the introductions to the Endless, specifically their garb. they all had their own unique ways of clothing themselves, and the description around that was solid.
the Bear- I thought Richie stole the episode, mostly when he looks at Sweeps and tells him he’s beautiful. It’s just him lifting Sweeps up, and he doesn’t mean anything by it. in fact, he seems to be sparking a connection with someone else this episode. He also had a great moment where he’s prepping his speech for what might be their final night by co-opting a quote from Gladiator.
Revival- This audio description track makes so many odd choices. There was one that was clearly asinine, and I strongly considered violating whatever copyright laws are out there just to film this little segment in the most ghetto way possible by holding my phone in front of the TV, so you could see what is happening, versus the description we get. Toward the beginning of the episode, the younger sister who is one of the revived, is just realizing all that entails while she watches her dad on the news. her dad is essentially playing in the background, and she’s “evolving”. There are sound effects, and the score rises and falls based on what she’s doing, which is never described. I can see the intent from the writer was to not trample the news report, but instead of catching us up with what happened to our focus, the girl, after the talking is done, we instead get some description about the Sheriff’s facial expression in the news report on TV. But, as a horror series, this thing having any description at all is helpful, but it so often makes the worst possible choice, and fails to mention something else, even when clearly sound effects support it, or even characters are referring to something without saying what it is. I’m watching 60 shows, and this is easily the worst audio description track out of the shows with audio description.
And Just Like That- fucking Aiden is back. This relationship clearly is not working out, but he’s come to New York to visit Carrie, just when the cool new British guy is in the picture.
Yes Chef- The season ended without audio description. This is why we can’t have nice things. Every other episode had description. keep in mind, the finale did not air live. I watched this on Saturday, and the original air date was Monday. They had time.
Prison Break- from what I can tell it is a cool concept, but I have to get through four seasons with no audio description, then finally it picks up at Season 5? Maybe I’ll just go into the revival not knowing the lore of the original series, because right now that is starting to feel like a daunting task I’m not excited for.
Dexter- Now with the kids gone, Dexter can finally set his sights on his prey. he still has custody of Harrison, the baby, so he hires a babysitter. but, otherwise, he’s back to being Dexter. I noticed Julia Stiles in the credits, and I realize now this is her season. From fans I’ve talked to over the years, everyone I talked to always hated her. I think her character is named Lumen. I did that, without checking it, to emphasize how dexter fans have complained over the last 15-ish years to me about her. When I explained to people I stopped after Trinity, I didn’t get that much push back about not continuing and it was either because of Stiles, or what they end up doing with dexter/deb.
King Of The hill- Just chugging along. No audio description.
The Office- Also, chugging along, with no audio description. I’m not sure when this revival is coming, but I know it is imminent enough I can confidently say in less than a year.
Pop Culture jeopardy- Good lord. I’m still in the Knockout rounds. How many episodes did they make? I mean, it is fun, because I’m naturally good at this. Although, they had Johnny reading Gangsta rap lyrics for an entire category, and I didn’t know any of the songs, and only some of the artists. To be fair, all three teams, which each have three people on them, who all specialize in pop culture, didn’t guess a single one either. The whole category went completely unanswered.
Sherlock and Daughter- mediocre. The guy playing Sherlock as a brash asshole is fun, but I can’t firmly recommend this without audio description.
