The Small Screen Diaries: 08/02/25

TV Shows Watched: Eyes of Wakanda: S1E2 (Disney plus) with audio description, chief Of War: S1E1 (Apple plus) with audio description, Untamed: S1E6 (Netflix) with audio description, Dexter: S5E9 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, And Just Like That: S3E10 (HBO MAX) with audio description, Leanne: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, The Summer I Turned Pretty: S3E1 (Amazon) with audio description

Eyes Of Wakanda- Solid audio description, hated the episode. most of what we know about Troy is from The Aenead, and while most if not all is myth, it felt so weird for them to take this part of history and just “Wakanda’ it. Like, totally gone was Helen Of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships. The Wakandan warrior is named Memnon, which is to weirdly close to Agamemnon, who is actually a part of the story. This is why our kids are stupid. You can have fun with this story, absolutely, but all they kept was the city of Troy, the horse, and the damn heel.

Chief Of war- This could be fun. The audio description is firing on all cylinders, as the show is basically in a “anything you can do, we do much better” with Hulu. This series has no English, but unlike Shogun, which had some English, this show employs multiple talents to read for the characters, instead of expecting one person to do everything… like Shogun. This is quality AD at least worth checking out.

Untamed- Full review coming…

Dexter- A bit of a sidetrack, as Dexter’s daughter comes back and breaks into Lumen’s house, not realizing she’s there, and then Dexter has to crack some knuckles as Agnes’s best friend is being abused by her stepfather. But, no kill room for him. Too obvious.

And just Like That- And Just Like That, Carrie is cancelled, just when she might finally be getting to a good story. After spending all season being suffocated by Aiden, the show is now dead. Thanks, john Corbett. So, instead of enjoying single Carrie, we get the axe instead. It might finally have been getting off the ground too.

Leanne- I’m doing God’s work here. This show isn’t funny. Talented supporting cast with Kristen Johnson and Blake Clark, but it just struggles so hard to justify the laugh track.

The Summer I turned Pretty- Now at college, they deal with… never mind. We’re diving right into Ross and Rachel territory, and the season premiere has one of those “we were on a break” fights. Billie, grow up.

Say Something!
