Supergirl (2026)

I hate to say it, but I think Greta Gerwig would have killed this movie. It could have been great. Instead, for reasons unbeknownst to everybody, we got Craig Gillespie, who sort of lacks a singular voice as a director and is utilized a bit more to plug into various different genres. He just seems to be able to make a broad film for audiences, whether it’s comedy, action, horror, or something else. He’s touched all of the genres, and now he’s coming for Supergirl. A very tiny diary. In case you missed it, I reviewed Cape Fear in its entirety yesterday. I did that after watching all ten episodes of it. In the same day. Needless to say, I didn’t do much else in terms of watching things. Cape Fear: Season 1

A tale as old as time. A film that’s been rewritten enough that it credits multiple original screenwriters. Cape Fear, the new Apple limited series, is adapted from two previous films, which were themselves adapted from John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners. It’s almost like playing a game of telephone, seeing what gets passed from version to version while recognizing that this is 2026. I maintain that if I’m going to end up watching a bad film, I would much prefer to watch a film that took risks, made bold choices, and shot the moon, as opposed to something that feels like a thousand other movies, and even in its benign state, still somehow managed to be an utter failure.
