The Small Screen Diaries: 09/25/25

TV Shows Watched: Gen V: S2E4 (Amazon) with audio description, Marvel’s Zombies: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, The Twisted Tale Of Amanda Knox: S1E6 (Hulu) with audio description, House Of Guinness: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description, The Girlfriend: S1E4 (Amazon) with audio description, Black rabbit: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, and Name That Tune: S?E2 (Hulu) no audio description

Gen V- Hamish Linklater has been a great cast addition as Cypher, this new head of the school who is really hard to decipher. What are his powers? Does he even have any? You’ll know by the end of this episode, that’s for sure. Also, Bushmaster has entered the chat. I was giggling a little when the audio description was explaining how her powers were being used. It’s in The Boys universe, which you should have learned by now means not only are all bets off, but they are more likely to do the raunchiest thing possible.

Marvel’s Zombies- I think if I had a note for the audio description, it would be keeping track of people. At the end of the episode, I wasn’t 100% sure I knew everyone who had made it onto the escape vessel. Also, why the hell is Namor so strong? Did I miss something? he has like Hulk level strength in this. I would have initially compared his strength to Captain America or Wolverine, being above average by far, but he seems strangely overpowered here. Still moving forward with primarily the next gen of Marvel heroes, and not the ones that got it all started (mostly because they all died in the What If episode already).

The Twisted tale of Amanda Knox- Never traveling to Italy. I’ve learned the lesson of this series. This show, to me at least, is far more interesting than Ryan Murphy’s oversensationalized and gratuitous Monsters franchise.Hot take.

House Of Guinness- My initial reaction is that you’ll like this if you enjoyed Peaky Blinders and The Gentleman. it feels akin to that. I did notice that they have Irish subtitles for those who speak Irish, which is a nice touch, but it would be even cooler if they did an Irish AD track, much like I think they should have done Hawaiian for Chief Of War. I wish we lived in a world where audio description on a basic level was just so commonplace that the extra spice streamers threw on were these rare audio description tracks. But, sadly, most of the time it is just lucky to have one track.

The Girlfriend- Oh this show has totally turned around. i get it now. This thing is fantastic, and an excellent sleight of hand. It’s a bit of a gamble, as I think people might be turned off by the odd slow start, but by Episode 3, and certainly 4, you realize the craft at play, and I’m super excited for the finale now. Brilliant.

Black Rabbit- It’s been compared a lot in the last week to Uncut Gems. I can see that comparison, but I wish this was dialed up a notch. I wish it was even more intense, like a good old fashioned David Fincher thriller from back in the day. The brothers devise a plan to get themselves out of debt, and we learn a bit about Jason Bateman’s character’s past and a bad thing that got him exiled to begin with.

Name That Tune- Do you ever hear a song, and you’re like… come on now. I felt that so hard with both the first and second half. It took her way too long to name Bad Romance, and then later Every Rose Has Its Thorn. Sometimes, when it’s just ten notes on a piano, it’s hard to hear the song with all the production around it, but when the band is kicking, no excuse.

Say Something!
