Sr.
Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes Somehow, the documentary branch did not shortlist this farewell to an artist. Somehow, the documentary branch that believed When We Were Bullies warranted a nomination last year, failed to see any relevance or beauty in a son working to make peace with the inevitability of his father’s passing, while also wanting to participate in a documentary on his final days and musings. Robert Downey Sr. Is the Sr. Referenced in the title. And for those of you who have no idea who that is, or that he was a filmmaker in … Continue reading Sr.
The Woman King
Where I Watched It: iTunes English Audio Description Provided By: Media Access Group Narrated By: Leilani jones Wilmore Watching the evolution of the Woman King,at least through other movie pundits, was a ride. There was this concept that perhaps the movie wouldn’t be any good (because of it’s September release date), and then there was concern over the subject matter (slavery), followed by the utter surprise at the glowing Rotten Tomatoes score, and then box office over performing. That was followed by the realization that perhaps this film was an Oscar contender. Not just for Viola Davis, but in multiple … Continue reading The Woman King
Spin Me Round
Where I Watched It: iTunes English Audio Description?: No To be fair, this is also available on AMC Plus without audio description, so I could have watched it in either place. I can’t remember why I chose to rent it. it was probably on sale. In factI crammed so many movies into my Christmas break, some of them I’m struggling to even remember coherently at a level where I can fully critique them. i do know that I wanted to see this because I love Alison Brie, and fully support her film career. The plot was basically involving a girl … Continue reading Spin Me Round
Best Of 2022: Writing For A Comedy Series
I do this weird thing where I break up shows into four categories for my awards. Drama, Comedy, Genre, and Limited. So, for Genre, I group in a bunch of shows that typically get overlooked, or their performances aren’t appreciated, from sometimes lauded shows like Stranger Things and The Boys, to less likely shows like The Orville and Locke and Key. So, if a show is missing, it might be there. I know, What We Do in The Shadows kind of feels like where does it go? But I think the focus there is a lot more on the comedy … Continue reading Best Of 2022: Writing For A Comedy Series
The Too Much TV Roundup- 01/05/23
Starting to get back into work, but I still knocked out seven shows. This will likely not be the case next week. 7) Tales Of The Jedi (Disney plus) English Audio Description?: Yes I just didn’t like Choice. I mean, it was weird hearing someone other than Sam Jackson playing Mace Windu, but it also just felt like an incomplete story, or tale. It felt like a deleted scene from a DVD release of one of the prequel films. Compared to the other two, which at under 15 minutes already struggle to have a beginning, middle, and end, this one … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 01/05/23
Best of 2022: Top 10 Animated Features
I believe i saw 27 Animated features in 2022, so this list reflects a decent chunk of that. It’s a little different from my usual, as the lowest film on this list received a grade of B, so that’s the range of my top 10. I am not upset about any film just missing the cut, so my honorable mention goes to the biggest animated feature I haven’t seen, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. I was a fan of the first film, so I’m sure the sequel is up my alley. But if i wait till that drops on … Continue reading Best of 2022: Top 10 Animated Features
The Too Much TV Roundup- 01/04/23
Welcome back. Another rejuvenating list. I actually basically enjoyed everything I watched on some level. So, with 7 shows in play, who ended up on top? 7) Down To Earth With Zac Efron (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Zac went into how animal rescues try and save these creatures when things like wildfires occur and devastate their natural habitat. We took a trip to Kangaroo island, which sadly is not a Planet Of THe Apes style society where Kangaroo’s have taken over and started their own form of society. I mean, they tried, but nobody really gives any kind of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 01/04/23
Best Of 2022: Breakthrough Performer in Film
This is a tough category for me. It’s about a couple of things. For me, it means I didn’t know who this person was prior to 2022, and I believe the majority of people didn’t, or that they got a giant career boost in 2022.So, someone on here might have been around for a few years, and have some credits, but 2022 was their year. I’m also not ranking them by performance, but rather the likelihood that they’ll still be a prominent name ten years from now. kind of like also a ‘Star of Tomorrow” award. If that makes sense. … Continue reading Best Of 2022: Breakthrough Performer in Film
The Too Much TV ROundup- 01/03/23
Six shows, two movies. That was my day yesterday. How did those shows stack up? 6) Tell Me Lies (Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes Thank God. It’s over. Episode Grade: C, Series Grade: C+ 5) The Mosquito Coast (Apple Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes After the harrowing experience of the second episode, our little family of fugitives make it to their destination. And like most mysterious organizations, with underground locations, this one has one of those nicknames that just strikes fear. La Casa Roja. Fuck Me. When i heard that, I upgraded my alarm system and hired personal security. You … Continue reading The Too Much TV ROundup- 01/03/23
White Noise (2022)
Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes Other than my usual perspective of being blind and watching with audio description, i also have not read the book. I’ve heard some call it unfilmable, but I have no context. From what I can tell, i understand their hesitation. i miss the Noah Baumbach who was more interested in seemingly being the next Wes Anderson, and directing offbeat indies like The Squid And The Whale. Netflix letting him do whatever with large sums of money isn’t helping. White Noise is a film not everyone will like. That’s a fact. Not … Continue reading White Noise (2022)
Sam and Kate
Where I Watched it: iTunes English Audio Description?: no This is one of those examples I brought up about why audio description should be on more things… because households sometimes aren’t like 100% blind, and we all share spaces, and live together? Well, i watched this with someone else that I knew would like a film starring Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek. Because of that, and they know there was no audio description, I got some things explained to me along the way that I would not have been able to understand without. That being said, i will be giving … Continue reading Sam and Kate
The Invitation (2022)
Where i Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes It needs to be said that Nathalie Emanuel needs to be a casting priority for Hollywood. Like, she needs the same level of attention Margot Robbie gets. There’s no reason she can’t be an A-lister. She should not have to do films like this to hope her star power rises. Everyone loves her, she proved her dramatic weight on Game of Thrones, and is waiting for her big non-Fast and Furious moment. This isn’t it. This is one of those films where I actually don’t blame the cast. At all. I … Continue reading The Invitation (2022)
Aqua Teen Forever
Where I Watched it: iTunes English Audio Description?: no This one was just for me. I’ve watched every single Aqua Teen thing since the show premiered. I have some seasons on DVD. I screened the movie in theatres before it came out. I’ve watched the show a bit since losing my vision. It’s not the easiest to follow, but I’ve been following these characters for like 20 years now. Seriously. i remember on one of the DVD’s you could take a recording of the Mooninites doing a voicemail for you. And, yes, that was my voicemail for about a year. … Continue reading Aqua Teen Forever
RRR
Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: no It generally always takes me a bit longer to write out the review than to do my YouTube recording. Discussing my experience for this film on YouTube already is my most watched video of the past year, because this film has a lot of fans. And even though I say at the top of my video, I’m a blind film critic, and here’s how Netflix expects me to access the film, and my reaction… they just tell me to read the subtitles. insert massive face palm here. So, RRR was a … Continue reading RRR
Best Of 2022: My Top 10 Animated TV Shows
Continuing on with my celebration of 2022, I’m turning to Animated TV Shows. This list was hard to make. It’s the first time I’ve not included South Park. I love that show to death, but I need it to figure out it’s life. The low episode count being supported by these Paramount Plus specials that were just OK didn’t do it favors. So for the first time, probably ever, I left it out of my top 10. Also, a lot of other animated shows I watch, from The Great North to Chicago Party Aunt didn’t make the cut. 10) Rick … Continue reading Best Of 2022: My Top 10 Animated TV Shows
