A new day brought some new shows to my list of currently watching programming. but were they any good, and did they make the top spot?
1( Rutherford Falls (Peacock)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
When we last left this show, it looked like the town was about to turn into a living breathing tourist trap, with Nathan finding out he’s not really a Rutherford and driving off to parts unknown. It seems like he’s actually just been living in the attic “working on himself”, until he announces his reentry into society… at someone else’s birthday party. Same Nathan, new season.
Episode Grade: A
2) Candy (Hulu)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
After the second episode which wandered a bit too much for me, the third actually offered more character development that felt important, as Candy pursued her extramarital affair. I still want to know where she got the damn axe, and why she used the damn axe. She seems freakishly normal otherwise.Easily some of the best work of Jessica Biel’s Career.
Episode Grade: A-
3) Virgin River (Netflix)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
I mean, Virgin River is fluff, it’s not actually good. So, trying to grade it and rank it is based on how much of Virgin River you’re able to take. Then again, I’m still watching this damn thing in its 4th season. A new doctor is in town, and finally our missing resident (Hope) is back after Covid protocols have allowed her to return, and the actress herself doesn’t even seem like the same hope. This is just fluff. I totally understand those who love, and don’t.
Episode Grade: B+
4) The Summer I Turned Pretty (Amazon)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
Right now, after the first episode, I’m much more in “I’m ready to watch this as a movie, or maybe a limited series” mode. Convincing me that this is a series is going to be the biggest challenge, but then again plenty of YA novels become TV shows all the time. XOXO Gossip Girl.
Episode Grade: B-
5) Made For Love (HBo MAX)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
Since this is apparently the series finale since the show got cancelled, it feels underwhelming even more than it might have otherwise. There were some moments in Season 2 that made me like it more than Season 1, but very few. It kind of just went out on an unfortunate note.
Episode Grade: B-, Season 2 Grade: B-
6) Angeline (Peacock)
English Audio Description Available?: Yes
I don’t know, but this entire episode felt off, compared to the rest of the series. There was a documentary filmmaker, and we learned a bit more about who Angeline actually was. The man behind the curtain reveal didn’t work here, and this episode didn’t feel earned. Very weird vibes.
Episode Grade: C
