i did pick up some wind on the internet that hulu was dropping Alaska Daily and The Company You Keep from the service. i haven’t checked. i watched all of Alaska Daily, so it disappeared from my queue, and since i removed The Company you Keep from my watch history when I stopped watching it, it stopped being suggested to me. Like I said, unconfirmed reports.

I went into this divisive show with a clear mind. I was ready to accept whatever I’d heard people thought this was. I’ve heard it called a lot of things, from porn to Gone Girl, and the pilot is definitely provocative. However, it’s also kind of incoherent. It seems to want style over substance, like watching this would be the experience, which doesn’t make it great for blind users. Actual plot and character work in the pilot is really thin. Most of it is trying to push an idea that there’s a lot of sexually charged stuff happening in the industry we just don’t know about. but, it fails to create a compelling narrative for the characters. I’m not a big euphoria fan, but I also can’t deny that Zendaya and her character Rue on that show have a clear purpose and vision. it’s missing here. The same time and consideration is not given to either Lily Rose Depp or The Weekend in their roles. They’re there to look at. The Audio description is pretty appropriately sexually focused, but even at times when it’s not called for. i remember a scene when a character is just in a bathroom looking at herself in the mirror, and I guess we can see her butt bouncing? i think the show is exploitative enough, without trying to find more moments. I’m not going to bother with future episodes. I don’t think this show has a future, and I couldn’t tell you after the pilot what the show was about.

So someone had sex. And, the episode definitely goes in a different direction. I don’t really understand why they decided to make Paxton into some unpopular kid. i could understand if he was surrounded by nerds, and he couldn’t connect, but he’s surrounded by frat boys, guys who are exactly like his best friend who is stuck back home. he should be able to connect and they don’t really explain why he is having such an awful time.

So, the audio description isn’t great, as none of the characters are ever described, but other than that, it’s a fun pilot. it’s hilarious to think how insane this show gets after the pilot. it’s basically never this calm again.

Paul’s first word is apparently pussy, which puts everything in disarray. This show keeps getting better and better. Maxim is a scene stealer, and the show has quite evolved all the supporting players. It has a great ensemble that deserves more love.
