Going In Blind: The Walking Dead: Dead City: Season 3

John Stark

Seth Hoffman clearly had some thoughts. Luckily, AMC was willing to listen, because as The Walking Dead: Dead City was sort of headed nowhere, Hoffman stepped in, asked someone to hold his beer, and figured out how to alter the course of a series quickly headed for cancellation. If you look at the live ratings for Dead City compared to The Walking Dead at basically any point during its run, they’re critically lower. I know we’re not really into linear television anymore, but let’s also be honest: not that many people have AMC+. The benefit of AMC+ used to be … Continue reading Going In Blind: The Walking Dead: Dead City: Season 3

A tentative deal has been reached between the studios and the writers. The details have yet to be made public, but should be shortly as the membership has to vote on it. An official vote by leadership happens on Tuesday, which will solidify this a bit more, and possibly allow some writers to return to work. Most writers will have to wait until the contract is fully ratified by the WGA as a whole, but writers for talk shows are expected to resume possibly later this week, as all they need is for Tuesday’s vote to pass. 11) Daryl Dixon … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/24/23

HBO wasted zero time in cancelling Winning Time at the same time (I’m saying time a lot this time aren’t I?) as the season finale, which is now a series finale. I had a feeling this was going to happen, since the shows creator was begging for viewers on Twitter. 8) The White King (MGM Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet Renewed I have no idea what this show is about. It’s incredibly slow, very serious, has some medieval fighting sequences, and I guess royal drama? There was one good scene where the King admonished the Lords who … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/17/23

It is that time. Once again, I have no significant news. Someone needs to renew something for crying out loud. 14) Painkiller (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I’m trying to keep an open mind here, but DopeSick was so good that this really needed to be terrific too. The pilot was kinda boring and fell short. The cast is comprised of actors I enjoy, but they don’t match the performances of the original DopeSick cast. The whole scene where we were waiting for something horrible to happen to Taylor kitsch was lazily written and dragged out. This feels … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/12/23

I gotta be honest and say, that while i realize this strike is keeping people from working, I 100% support it until at least the studios give up on abusing the use of AI. honestly, I’m loving catching up on shows, and rewatching them. Even though Sony recently had to make a slew of changes to their release schedule, pushing back several films, there’s never been a better time to catch up on that one show (or multiple) that you just never watched but always meant to. 14) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Bridget … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/29/23

It’s amazing how many people out there have no problem consuming the work of the SAG and WGA but are complaining now because they think actors are little babies. While streaming residuals are a factor, since syndication and linear viewing are down, it is not the only factor. The use of AI technology is a key factor in both guilds. The writers do not want AI to be a credited screenwriter taking over their job, nor do the SAG want AI images of them used in perpetuity. The major studios and networks want to do things like scan crowd scenes … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/14/23

What a disappointing day of TV. 13) The Crowded Room (Apple Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited So, the show is going to try and confuse you through poor direction and writing. Got it. If this turns out that he has a split personality disorder, and this is like identity, I’m calling it now. Remember, we are just a few days away from SAG-AFTRA going on strike. There are people currently still working, and those people would stop. I can’t think of that many things that wouldn’t be in reruns. Take The View for example. Whoopi is definitely a SAG member. They’ve dodged the WGAA strike, but they wouldn’t be able to dodge this one. Well, started off my morning with shitty news. Apple Plus has cancelled high Desert. honestly, I understand it. The pilot was off putting initially, but once you get past it, Patricia Arquette is doing a hell of a job keeping this thing together. And, Matt Dillon and Brad Garrett do a pretty decent job supporting her. I would have probably renewed this, and I’m sad to see this character go, but Apple released a lot of comedies in the Spring, and right after this was Platonic, which is a better show and really deserves a second season. Surprisingly very little television shows were had. You know, i do other things, right? Here’s a quick rundown of what I thought was the tops. I think that’s an old timey phrase. 1) The Offer (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description Available?: Yes I finally started this limited series about the creation of The Godfather film, and I’m a sucker for movies about movies. That’s probably why I was so surprised when Mank didn’t work for me, because this is a pretty solid sub-genre to throw at me.
