The fact that I’m hearing that the SAG AMPTA negotiations are being held up over AI really tells me all I need to know about the studios positions. I do hope SAG does not waiver on their counter to many of the terrible ideas these studios were proposing, including owning an actors likeness in perpetuity, simply because they showed up as an extra for one day. People say that AI is the future, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. If we don’t regulate it now, that same person is going to have their face regenerated into a video of being fucked by a horse. Because, there’s no stopping AI, right? Might as well not try. That may seem like a crude example, but using AI generated copies in porn is already happening.
And on that happy note.
11) Star Trek Lower Decks (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Unknown
Every once in a while, I watch something where I can’t remember what it was actually about. Today’s winner was Lower Decks, which must not have been that inspired this week. I believe S4E4, as a point of reference. Fun fact, I keep trying to play The Gold every single day, and just that one title never loads for me. I can watch anything else, just not The Gold, and Paramount is running out of time as I didn’t care that much about that show to keep trying.
Episode Grade: I’ll be nice and just not grade this.
10) Virgin River (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Presumably Renewed
I love doing like a MST3K thing wiht this show. There was a point where Preacher was having a very serious moment with Kaya, and I added the line, after he said “I care about you.”, “Even though you’ve only been in four episodes, it feels like you’ve been here for five.” So, while I can acknowledge the cheesy goodness of this show, I have no problem admitting I’m enjoying Season 5, albeit for the wrong reasons, and I’m super excited for Muriel and Cameron to start boinking.

9) Home Improvement (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
As one of the few long running sitcoms on both Disney Plus and Hulu, I feel like it should have audio description. That’s just me. This episode let me down on messaging, as Tim didn’t learn when not to tell everyone someone’s secret, and instead researched to learn more. The moral of this story should have been when his friend and neighbor opened up reluctantly to Tim with “I’ve never told anyone else about this before”, Tim shouldn’t have violated Wilson’s trust by going around and telling every possible show on the show.

8) Shelter (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Not Yet Renewed
This show always gets points for being bonkers, but this week, Mickey went somewhere alone, without backup, while learning about a trafficking ring, and became far too trusting too quickly. I also love that the husband with anger issues was waiting at home for his wife, and felt like a brand new man. Anger issues clearly are resolved that quickly. She’s probably totally safe. In a show called Shelter.
Episode Grade: B
7) Wrestlers (Netflix)

As this group of underappreciated wrestlers continues their docu-journey, we learn more about their struggles, and personal tragedies. One guy has a seizure after going off on his squad, and they still immediately jump in and help. I’m not a fan of wrestling, but this is a pretty compelling little docuseries.

Earl’s baby naming kills the elder, which leads to a campaign for new elder between him and his boss. Earl realizes he’s too stupid to run.

5) Found (Peacock)

I really can’t stop thinking about all the awful life choices Gaby could make with Sir as the series moves forward. I hope he never leaves the basement, but I just think it’s going to happen. This weeks story was too obvious.
Episode Grade: B+
4) Friends (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes

Time to start appreciating Matthew Perry and this episode luckily gave him something to do. He spends most of the time with a baby chick, and later a duck, but then again so does Joey. The best storyline went to Ross and Rachel, as Ross has to help Rachel since she’s hurt herself, and he’s the only one around. Seriously, one of my favorite TV couples of all time.

3) Portlandia (AMC Plus)

Finally starting to watch this critical darling, and the pilot did not disappoint. How did I go so long without enjoying this show? So many great jokes, as well as guest appearances. Steve Buscemi?

2) Community (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes

While part of the episode revolved around Jeff and Britta trying to get Annie away from Britta’s ex, the other half was about the rest of the gang trying to hate watch a film called KickPuncher, and someone feeling so insecure about their ability to be funny that they hire the college improv class to help them roast the film… in advance. The best part is how Troy and Abed recreate KickPuncher themselves.

1) Archer (Hulu)

Status: Final Season
Technically, the final episode, as there is a planned three part miniseries coming soon that will officially wrap up the series, but for now, it looks like the agency is shut down.
