The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/09/23

A couple of things. It’s like these companies were waiting for the strike to end to start their bad behavior. Immediately following news of the strike ending, Warner Bros celebrated by totally and permanently shelving Coyote Vs Acme, another finished feature project, and using it as a tax write-off. So, once again, a ton of artists worked on a film for months, just so it can live forever in a closet. Meanwhile, ABC should have already known the fates of The Rookie Feds and The Good Lawyer, because as soon as the strike was over, ABC cancelled The Rookie Feds, and announced they were not picking up The Good Lawyer To series. What changed?

12) The Ren and Stimpy Show (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

This was such a visually stunning animated series that I’m realizing on my rewatch that it’s not that I’ve outgrown the humor, its the lack of audio description to remind me of just how outlandish this show was at times. in the fifth episode, the titular duo are excited to watch a show starring themselves, and also later host a nature program. The big winner here was the Log commercial, My Brother Log. I remember growing up in the generation of My Buddy and Kid Sister, and that Log commercial perfectly targets that. But, overall I’m struggling without contextual audio description.

Final Grade: Unwatchable

11) ALF (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

While I enjoyed some of the jokes, like when the mom threatens to punch out Alf’s heart, this entire episode hinged on believing Alf might leave the show named after him because he was homesick. So, a premise that doesn’t work. Especially for S1E7 of a show that ran multiple seasons.

Episode Grade: C+

10) The Addams Family (MGM Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

This is the original show from back in the day, which I had vague memories of, from it being randomly on Nick At Nite. I had 100% forgotten apparently how young Wednesday is, and how in this original TV iteration, Pugsley is the older one. The pilot episode deals with a guy coming by the house because Gomez and Morticia don’t send their kids to school. He gets more than he bargained for.

Episode Grade: B-

9) The Masked Singer (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Whoever Donuts is has a beautiful voice I feel like I’ve heard before. Whoever that was that went home, I had no idea who that was. I liked Anteater’s first song, but his voice 100% changed when he sang a different song, which indicates to me he’s not a singer. Singers have distinct sounds. They don’t alter their sound from song to song. It’s how many seasons back I knew it was Chris daughtry right away. Also, Candelabra is overrated, and since Brandy has been famous since she was a teenager, I don’t know why she matched the Kevin Hart clue. kevin hart should have called her for help becoming famous.

Episode Grade: B-

8) Shelter (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

I will always give this show props for being incredibly weird. In the penultimate hour, it seems like everything is getting wrapped up, except that killer twist. And, is Troy going to be a problem?

Episode Grade: B

7) 8 Simple Rules (Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Starting Season 2 finally, and i now know I’m really close to that episode. I’m not even looking it up. I know it happens relatively early in Season 2, and I’m just going to enjoy the last episodes with john Ritter before the show completely changes course.

episode Grade: B

6) Praise Petey (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Unknown

Petey is having a birthday, which she learns is a cult holiday named crowning day, and her mom is coming to town. There is a character introduced as the random new girlfriend for Petey’s love interest, and I thought she was hilarious. I would totally keep her around.

Episode Grade: B

5) Adventure Time (MAX)

English Audio Descrption?: No

Status: Ended

Jake is trying to split his time between his girlfriend and Finn, and figures it would be better if they could all hang out together. This was actually one of the easiest episodes to follow, and I enjoyed it the most as a result.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Wrestlers (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

Still a really interesting look at the names you’ve never heard of but are just as passionate about doing this forever as the big stars on television. It reminds me a lot of the unceremoniously cancelled Heels, and maybe Netflix can find a place for more Wrestlers, but also Heels?

Episode Grade: B+

3) The Supermodels (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

We finally touch on the murder of Versace, but also things like Naomi being labeled difficult to work with, and why. There’s talk of Cindy’s acting career, and yet there’s still another episode after this.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

Frasier and the other two University characters get caught up in trying to get into an elite club. Meanwhile, Frederick has to teach his cousin how to have “game”.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Yellowjackets (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Season 2 Episode 4 is weird. There’s no way around it. What happens to Lotte in the flashback portions is mind blowing. What does that even mean? Also, a mic drop of a moment when the episode finishes with Tai going to visit an old friend, and we find out another Yelllowjacket is still alive. It’s funny how at the top, we were sort of just working off these 4, who were investigating the death of what was presumed to be the only other survivor, and since then, now two more girls have been revealed to have made it home. Elijah Wood is also an interesting cast addition.
