Peacemaker- Instead of spoiling through recap, let me say how nice it was to wake up to Alex reminding me that it was a great day to be a nerd, since I could see Superman and peacemaker on the same day. And, yes, I am John H. Stark, the executive producer of Peacemaker. The “H” is for Hurricane, because I bring the thunder. I also sweat profusely. And yes, I literally woke up to a message. Literally, still in bed, first thing I did in the morning was experience this reminder, and Yes, I did also watch Superman. review on that coming shortly. Peacemaker was fun too, as per usual, and Tim Meadows remains a standout.
My Life With The Walter Boys- The dance is here, but AT WHAT COST? When Daddy Walter experienced a little pain in his shoulder area, I immediately knew we would be in for a heart attack… which didn’t happen. So, I guess they are slowly building that into the plot. In the real world, sometimes it is just a random pain, or actual indigestion. this show isn’t written well enough for that reference to not be a purposeful harbinger of doom.
Haunted Hotel- No writer or narrator credited? Weird. But, IDC did some nice work on Netflix’s new adult animation which is a little like CBS’s Ghosts. A woman and her two kids move into a, I’ll let you figure that out, which was previously run by her brother who is now dead and a ghost. They have to deal with a multitude of ghosts and demons if they ever plan on having a guest. It was fun, but not necessarily a laugh riot. I did enjoy it though. The audio description mostly delivers. It has a hard model, being adult animation and horror at the same time, trying to describe all these ghosts and haunted things, while also dealing with the typical fast paced dialogue in adult animation.
The Summer I Turned Pretty- I’ve been pretty disengaged with this final season, and the whole con or Jer thing, as with one episode left, I wouldn’t choose either. But I became engaged immediately when I realized Belly had every right to straight up murder that one guy from the school. I’m sorry, but you don’t just accidentally inform someone you have a spot for them so they can fly to FUCKING PARIS to find out it was a glitch in your stupidity. His murder should be legal, and I’m disappointed she didn’t kill him on the spot. I’d acquit her. Could you even imagine? Flying to another continent? And then hearing “oops”. This girl is already stressed having to choose between brothers who refuse to use their full names. Which three lettered boy will she choose? Con or Jer? The stress alone, and then they make her spend easily a grand on a plane ticket (when planes aren’t exactly the best place to be these days) and fly to another country to be told there’s nothing. “Is there anyone I can call for you?” yeah. My lawyer. If that guy was still allowed to work at that school… burn it to the ground. If I had made someone fly from another continent, I’d probably never leave my bedroom again out of shame, or fear that an assassin had been hired to kill me. And I’d deserve it. The audio description was fine. After all of that, and I finally got to the audio description. It’s a lot of people having feelings all the time. It is a pretty easily described show.
The Daily Show- A fun gag, but I wanted Stewart to go for the jugular of Disney. Instead, he spent nearly 30 minutes belittling them through cleverly crafted comedy. I’ll take it.
Breaking Bad- The season premiere spells out the ramifications of the previous season, in case you didn’t pick up what the show was putting down. I’m not sure it needed to do that, but if this was back in the day and i wasn’t binge watching, I’d also have had months in between seasons. I’m finding it hard to like Skylar, who hasn’t really laid out all the cards about Walt managing to not die, and keep the family from bankruptcy. She can still be uncomfortable with how he went about it, but she’s standing a bit too high on her moral victory for a woman who I’m 99% sure returned to the work force just so that guy would stare at her cleavage (which was so noticeable, it was pointed out in the audio description multiple times). I get it, your marriage isn’t working anymore, but you’re also not a saint. And I’m very intrigued by Jesse realizing he’s “the bad guy”. More excellent audio description from DVW and Diane Newman.
