The Small Screen Diaries: 09/06/26

TV Shows Watched: The Walking Dead: Dead City: S3E7 (AMC Plus) no audio description, Black Torch: S1E2 (CrunchyRoll) with audio description, Elle: S1E8 (Amazon) with audio description,Jurassic World: Chaos Theory: S4E7 (Netflix) with audio description, The Doomies: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description

Dead City- No audio description again. Only one episode this season dropped with it. Baffling. Also, this episode revealed the writers are still unable to write eight episode seasons. You did not earn this episode.

Black Torch- Fairly easy to understand fantasy series about an aspiring ninja with the ability to talk to animals merging with an immortal Mononoke. The second episode, he meets his perpetually angry grandfather. The AD writing here is good, and this is the same voice they use for everything.

Elle- Really, they finished last episode, but Elle has this forced reckoning, then moves back to LA, only to… well… they did pick the show up for a second season. The canon for this franchise though still has to get her to certain places before Harvard, and I’m wondering how we get there. I liked the season, and hopefully I review it.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory- Still slowly going through this. They finally have reunited with Bumpy, but I think they want us to believe Ben will be killed off, so there’s a lot of worry over him. One of the best described shows technically aimed at kids, done by Descriptive Video Works.

The Doomies- Pixel Logic broke away from Apple to provide, what is apparently human narrated description. No. I refuse to believe this voice is not synthetic. He even sounds like a voice option on my phone. I watched the first episode, but not the credits, and the oddly unattached and emotionally distant vocals convinced me that Disney had replaced humans again. Another episode in, and I felt the synthetic dripping from this, yet I listened to the credits this time, and there it is. Pixel Logic with a human narrator. Flabbergasted. I enjoyed the synthetic voice on Black Torch more than what appears to be human approximation of synthetic voice.

Best AD: Chaos Theory- This show always has great audio description. In a weak day, it took the victory lap.

Worst AD: Dead City- Saving The Doomies from failing, dead City having no audio description, while advertising itself as having it, is a far greater offense.
