The Boys In The Boat

This was a late stage potential Oscar spoiler. Amazon posting a George Clooney directed film over the Christmas frame felt so much like what they tried to do with The Tender bar. While Ben Affleck did get a little traction for his supporting turn in that film, these Boys rowed on a path to nowhere. perhaps, because, we’ve seen an inspirational sports drama about almost everything already. So, a film about the underdogs at the historic Berlin Olympics who got there by rowing crew, perhaps wasn’t the Oscar bait we thought it might be. Based on the best-selling novel of … Continue reading The Boys In The Boat

The Flash

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description?: Yes now that the maligned Flash project is on MAX, we can all make up our own opinions. Good news for the filmmakers in that I won’t be commenting on what I understand to be not very impressive visual effects. I also believe that despite how you feel about one person in a film, there are hundreds of people trying to make this art, and we need to be able to separate ourselves sometimes. Somehow, we’ve changed that landscape… yet not entirely. Ticket To Paradise is that exact thing that shouldn’t exist anymore. It’s a star vehicle created specifically just to merge the chemistry of George … Continue reading Ticket To Paradise

Best Of 2016: Some Honorable Mention Performances

I’m about to start releasing my top 10 performances lists, but there are some performances this year that are outside that list. I figured, I’d list them here. Of course, this might give you an idea of what my top 10’s are, since these performances are going to be missing from those lists. I’ve left off performances I was able to already recognize in another category, like comedy, or young actor. These are all performances, for the most part, that at one time or another were on my top 10 list, but got moved off as I saw more films.
