The Small Screen Diaries- 03/16/24

Apples Never Fall (Peacock) is just a travesty. Mostly, the show suffers from poor direction and writing, but I can pinpoint some specifics. This show centers around a retired wife (Bening) who goes missing from her family, and former tennis star husband (Sam Neil). Her kids think something is afoot, so they start investigating, and over the course of 7 episodes, we will learn why Apples Never Fall (far from the tree). They introduce a character, Savannah (Georgia Flood), who shows up in the middle of the night supposedly fleeing domestic abuse. Man, i hope the SAG awards stay on Netflix. no commercials. Say anything you want. Fantastic. The predictable awards were predictable, and the other trophies painted a picture of the Actor and Actress race. Cillian Murphy has now won both the BAFTA and SAG, defeating Paul Giamatti at both. I cannot shake the feeling that Giamatti is winning for The Holdovers. It may just be because of how much I adore Paul, but I love both films and performances. Disney Plus and hulu are dropping several shows from their services here in a few days, so if you hadn’t finished any of these shows: Willow, Big Shot, The mysterious Benedict Society, Turner and hooch, The World According To Jeff Goldblum, Maggie, Pistol, y The Last Man, Little Demon, Dollface, or any of the movies or specials disappearing with them, now would be the time to catch up. I would recommend a binge of Big Shot if you never got to see it. joining the ranks of cancelled series are The Winchesters (which is being shopped to other networks and streaming services) as well as Kung Fu. Basically, The CW no longer exists. I celebrated Star Wars Day by not watching any Star Wars. Listen. i watched and reviewed all the titles last year before obi Wan dropped. I’m good to go for this year. Also, production on some shows continue to shut down due to the writers strike. Because I always accept feedback, I’ll lead today with a correction. Yesterday, I mentioned that The Masked Singer was available on FOX/Hulu, and I labeled it without audio description. That’s not entirely true. The audio description is available for those willing to watch it live, however that audio description does not translate to on demand airings after that, for example on hulu, where I watched the show. Something big happened yesterday. Something huge. Something I never thought I’d see happen. E3 was cancelled. What? First, condolences to the family of actor Lance Reddick, who passed away yesterday at the age of 60. he was such a recognizable voice in the TV industry, starring on many of your favorite shows. Certainly, fans of the roundup noticed me last praising his work on the unfortunate Resident Evil adaptation on Netflix.
