The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/18/23

Disney Plus and hulu are dropping several shows from their services here in a few days, so if you hadn’t finished any of these shows: Willow, Big Shot, The mysterious Benedict Society, Turner and hooch, The World According To Jeff Goldblum, Maggie, Pistol, y The Last Man, Little Demon, Dollface, or any of the movies or specials disappearing with them, now would be the time to catch up. I would recommend a binge of Big Shot if you never got to see it. Easily the best show they are removing.

12) Extrapolations (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited Series

This is such an odd duck of a show. At times, the episodes are clearly linked, and at others, it seems to go almost entirely the anthology route. it makes for a bit of a jumbled show, which has some interesting ideas, but is tough to truly get into. I wouldn’t call this a rewarding experience, though i would call it a thought provoking one.

Episode Grade: C+

11) Dinosaurs (Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Not having audio description on this series is so bizarre. I mean, for people who never saw it, you are missing on the Jim Henson character design. But by far the most distracting aspect is the lack of laugh track on what feels like a traditional multi-cam. This episode had Earl unable to stand up to a bigger dinosaur, but his wife had no problem stepping in.

10) Family Matters (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

No wonder Steve urkel ended up in this show. Still kinda flatlining at the beginning, the show focuses more on the adults, with this episode centered around Rachel finally getting past her writers block by writing about her family (at Laura’s suggestion), only to be treated like a pariah for doing so.

Episode Grade: B-

9) The Night Agent (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

I’m sure this show will hit me in the end with its best shot, but right now, it’s languishing in its fourth episode in predictability, and featuring the assassins all the freaking time. WHY do I care that he’s making pasta? Am I supposed to get emotionally invested as they sit in the bathtub together? WHO ARE THEY? I have no idea why this show was such a hit for Netflix viewers except to say they had nothing better to do.

8) 911 (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Moving To ABC

We made it to S2E3 before first encountering an episode without audio description. of course, it’s also part 2 of a two-part city wide disaster episode, so it’s more frustrating, because it feels like someone described the first half of a movie, and then quit. I wonder if that’s the last time I’ve heard AD on the show, or if it will start coming and going for a while.

Episode Grade: B

7) The Masked Singer (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

I have no idea who that winner is. None. I recognized their song, but I feel like I haven’t heard that name before.Meanwhile, poor Macaw finishes in 2nd place in a singing competition for the second time in his life.

Episode Grade: B

6) Barry (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Episode Two really helps push Sarah Goldberg forward in her Emmy campaign, as she realizes that no one wants to work with “the cunt girl” who also is now known as the girlfriend of a hitman. The best scene was when she goes to confront her old teacher about why he didn’t warn her when he found out. I don’t think he had enough time, and I think she kinda knew something was up if we’re being honest.

Episode Grade: B+

5) The Diplomat (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

I still want to know why our two want a divorce to begin with, but this series continues on with growing tensions, and Hal dropping some knowledge right at the worst time for his wife, and the audience, at the end of the episode.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Jeopardy Masters (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: not Yet renewed

the second episode in a row without audio description, and third overall. Also, it was the last episode for 5th and 6th place, and I like both of them, so that’s hard to cheer for.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Class Of 07 (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: unknown

Saskia is put on trial for “murdering” that one girl, but the trial is insane, and ends up revealing a lot about not just the defendant and how much of a mean girl she was back in the day, but some of the other shitty things other girls are doing. This is a fun show that no one is watching. Oh, and I can’t wait to find out where that nun came from.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Not Dead yet (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

It was nice to see this all wrap up well for season 1. For a minute, as her ex-boyfriend came back into her life, Mel stopped seeing the ghosts, which she realized she kinda missed. After all, she and Cricket would have never been friends without her powers. But the best part of the episode was when a favor was returned in kind, and after Mel had once told her roomie that he shouldn’t have to change for someone else, he gave her the same advice, pointing out all the ways she had changed, and how she shrinks when she’s around him. This series is going to go for a relationship between these two at some point, I’m now realizing, and after this episode, I wouldn’t hate it. Also, for your Emmy consideration: Lauren Ash. Best Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series. Please? Make up for all those times she never got nominated for Superstore. She’s one of the funniest sitcom actresses working.

Episode Grade: A

1) Game Of Thrones (HBo)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The season two finale. Lots of great moments, but the best ones are always between Tyrion and Shea. if we could go back in time and give them their own spinoff, I’d watch it. Runner up points go to Brianne who proved her worth against three men, surprising Jamie. of course, we know how this all eventually goes, so it’s hard to be too happy for a small victory, but I’ll take it for now.
