The Too Much TV Roundup- May 13th

Actually, I’m trying to make sure I actually remember everything I actually watched yesterday. it was a lot, and I didn’t write anything down, because I thought my memory could sustain a 24 hour period. I think this is it. I think.

1) Better Call Saul (AMC/Netflix)

English Audio Description: On Netflix

I’m actually catching up still on Season 5, since Netflix and AMC in their infinite wisdom waited until right before Season 6 dropped to release Season 5 on Netflix. Frustrating, I know, but this show doesn’t run with audio description on AMC, so perhaps, I’ll just wait for it to come to Netflix as well. Anyway, this series is damn good, and makes me want to attempt to watch Breaking Bad again when its all over.

Episode Grade: A

2) The Connors (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I’m actually a big fan of this series, perhaps even more than the original series it spun off from. I find John Goodman to be a much stronger central character, and the cast built around him over a few seasons has grown to be really large and strong. And this episode did a corny three wedding proposal scenario, and even with all of that, I’m still not mad. Who will actually get married? Probably just not Aldo and Harris.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Slow Horses (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

This one is a rarity for me, something that I didn’t like the pilot for, but slowly has grown on me over time. Gary oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas of course are elevating the project, but it’s actually well crafted, except when it goes for broke with humor at the wrong time. But at the right time, it actually provides the correct tone of the show. This 5th episode of the season balanced quite well.

Episode Grade: A-

4) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

It was the 2nd part to the “Is Roz pregnant?” Storyline. Part 1 was funnier, but part 2 has its moments, and also just has moments that are good to just sit in and enjoy these actors exploring their characters without needing to deliver a punchline.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Halo (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

This one has been an odd show for me. I was really really excited before the premiere, then the pilot blew my mind, then they stopped having action sequences for several episodes. Finally, it starts ramping up as we near the end of season 1, and a show that should have far mor action than it does is starting to interest me again. But it’s also a little too late.

Episode Grade: B

6) Minx (HBO MAX)

Episode Grade: B

Of the recent HBO MAX comedies, Minx has been fun, but it’s just a step behind Our Flag Means Death and Julia. Though, I’m just now halfway through the season (Episode 5), so I’m waiting to see where this all ends up.

Episode Grade: B

7) The Golden Girls (Hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: No

Finally a real episode with real stuff happening. This wasn’t a classic episode, but I was just happy to get away from a greatest hits two-parter buried in the middle of Season 3.

Episode Grade: B

8) The United States of Al (Paramount Plus/CBS)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I like the show, but I was hoping that Al’s girlfriend would have been more short lived than she is. An episode where Al would rather have sex than study feels like something out of a teen comedy, and not this show. CBS dropped the axe on this, which is such a shame, because it was such a great show right at the beginning of Season 2, and most of the time knows exactly where it needs to go. This wasn’t the best for the series, and sends it limping toward the exit.

Episode Grade: B-

9) Jeopardy (Syndication)

English Audio Description Available?: No

Normally this show just floats at a B, but I really wanted the lady with the neat accent to win so i could learn more about how and where she got that accent. Instead, the guy who does Arndol Schwarzenegger impersonations won. Go figure. My score was up to 22 last night, but I still missed Final Jeopardy.

Episode Grade: B-

10) The Goldbergs (ABC)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Please. Please let this show go. I’m nine seasons in and I don’t see anything new that I like, or anything that makes me laugh for several episodes. I can go an entire episode now without caring at all about anything, but after 9 years, I feel like I’m owed that conclusion. That finale.

Episode Grade: C

11) The Masked Singer (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description available?: I’ve heard yes, but I’ve never experienced it.

This “Road To The Finals” episode is just a clip show, and I hate clip shows. I’d rather just watch a straight up rerun than something trying to market itself as “new” when it clearly is not.

Episode Grade (on principle alone): F
