The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/02/23

I did notice that Paramount Plus announced that the next season of Star Trek Discovery will be its last. So, with Picard in its final season, and Discovery about to end, that will leave them with just Strange Worlds and the two animated offerings.

8) Night Court (NBC/Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

This had one good episode a few weeks back, and now has once again devolved into… I don’t know. but, this is why people don’t make multi-cams anymore. The Bailiff is funny at times, because the actress seems always willing to commit to whatever is thrown her way. But, this episode about trying to find the judge a new home was frustratingly not funny.

Episode Grade: C

7) Animal Control (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I still, second episode in, believe that this show needs audio description. I’m not sure why it doesn’t have it, other than Hulu maybe never uploading FOX content properly. As much as I love Joel mcHale, every joke makes little to no sense because it usually revolves around animals we can’t see, and need audio description to tell us what is so crazy about what it is they are doing.

Episode Grade: B-

6) The Great North (FOX/hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Sometimes, a show has a great A storyline, and a messy B plot for the rest of the cast. That happened here, as Judy and Honeybee went off to spend some girl time at this weird retreat, but the rest of teh cast got stuck at home and was interrupted by someone who made a pact with Beef to get married when they were 40. Everything written in that plot was way over the top. Also… Beef is only 40? Jesus.

Episode Grade: B-

5) The Masked Singer (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

It’s been a very Foxy day, without audio description. But, I think we all expected them to use that keep it on bell. They have been getting some good names and talent this season, so I’m still of the belief that this show is worth a glance. I agree that all signs point to Lorde, but how come no one has mentioned Jessie J or Duffy?

Episode Grade: B

4) Extraordinary (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I’m starting to get into the show, as I see what it is trying to pull off. I wasn’t a fan of the pilot, but I guess I just needed to marinate in its tone for a while. I do love the guy who can summon sea life, but he can’t control it. Some of these powers are hilarious. It reminds me of Mystery Men.

Episode Grade: A-

3) The Recruit (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I Always love how much ground The Recruit is able to cover in one episode. It always feels like a lot was accomplished and the story has moved infinitely further along. I’m not super crazy about “that hookup”, but we’ve got more episodes left to tell this story. If that was my mom, I would literally never speak to her again. Wow. What a dick move.

Episode Grade: A-

2) 911: Lone Star (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: no

Dammit. Audio Description! I needed it here. There were so many action packed moments where solid audio description could have helped. I’m glad we wrapped up that storyline though. It’s behind us, and now we can get back into the season.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Jack Ryan (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

This is how you do it. Perfection. I think I’ve given every single episode of the season an A grade so far, and i wasn’t a huge fan of Season 2. But, Season 3 is just so well paced, full of rich characters, and every episode is not only heart poundingly interesting, but it’s also furthering our endgame. Great performances also. Krasinski has never been better as Ryan.

Episode Grade: A
