The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/23/23

I read that George RR Martin’s deal with HBo has been suspended, and I wonder why. Is he a member of the WGA? There’s another GOT show in early development, and i would think they’d still need him for house of The Dragon, which I last heard was still shooting in England.

13) Skull Island (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not yet Renewed

This one for me just comes down to the voice cast, and what is this show trying to do, and what does it want to be? I felt that Jurassic World: camp Cretaceous managed to have a cute vibe for kids while also maintaining an interesting story and action scenes. Here, the voice cast is a bit more scrambled, with some actors feeling like they are aimed at a younger audience, and others voicing possibly more for teens and adults. The pilot is action packed, so it’s a bit hard to fully determine if this is just for kids, or where this is trying to land. It also is so concerned with not wasting your time, I actually think it starts too fast, and does a poorly job establishing these characters in the pilot. They’re more concerned about the monster fight.

12) Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

While I would love for this show to get audio description, i gotta say I didn’t even remember this episode ever happened. Some creepy boy is hanging around, and there’s a demon manifesting nightmares. It was a little cheesy, and Xander was way over the top. i swear, this show gets better.

11) Futurama (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Starts Today. I’m Still On season 2.

This episode saw a lazy reason to get the episode started, which became about Zoidberg needing to mate on his home planet. lots of lobster jokes.

10) Project Greenlight (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: unknown

Previously, I’ve never bothered to watch this series, but this time, the panel really made me interested. i thought this would be way more about the road to choosing the director, but it’s less about that and more about making that film. By the end of the first episode, the director is chosen. I feel a missed opportunity to take the first episode to showcase more than three finalists, and really put a few more names on the table. It’s possible that simply getting your work mentioned on Project Greenlight will help you in the future, but this feels so rushed. I’m not sure it’s bad, but this is a show I wanted something else from, and i probably won’t be back because it isn’t about the journey to finding a director, but rather what comes next.Episode Grade: B

7) 7) Hoff The Record (BritBox)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

What’s up Britbox! Welcome to my roundup. The show i was most interested from you was this pretty funny David hasselhoff series where he can’t convince the producers to let him play himself in the biopic. I really wanted a Fantasia reference, as she did actually play herself in her own biopic, and I needed audio description because i was super interested in knowing what the actor who is playing David in the movie looks like, as well as the kid playing David’s son.So, perhaps BritBox should import some of that British audio description? Blind people live in America too.

6) Justified (Hulu)

English audio Description?: No

Status: Revival now Airing

The increasing amount of screentime for Margo Martindale is appreciated with every episode. She’s fantastic. but, I always miss about 25% of the show because of a lack in audio description, so this show kind of has a cap.

5) 911 (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: moving to ABC

This is an Athena centric episode, as a cold case very personal to her is solved, and Angela Bassett acts her face off.

4) The Walking Dead (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: No but I watched with a sighted person

Status: Final Season

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is great in this episode. He was willing to sacrifice himself, even over characters who hate him, but things started to go wrong when the gun started to point at Annie, and Morgan’s performance felt full circle when he had the group and took out Abraham and Glenn.

2) The Bear (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

Thank God Hulu finally started to audio describe the show. Season 1 was a bit of a wash for me, but now I’m learning character names, and this was a nice start to a series i feel like I’m just starting to watch… in Season 2. Note to everyone else: ALWAYS describe the first season. At least entrap us before pulling the audio description. hulu handled this ass backwards.

1) Jack Ryan (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

The last season was my favorite, but this kicks off with a bang. it’s ruined at the end, but I can’t spoil that. It’s just… you can’t be that vague on a mic drop moment and expect someone who says they have no clue what you’re talking about to figure it out.
