It is that time. Once again, I have no significant news. Someone needs to renew something for crying out loud.
14) Painkiller (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited
I’m trying to keep an open mind here, but DopeSick was so good that this really needed to be terrific too. The pilot was kinda boring and fell short. The cast is comprised of actors I enjoy, but they don’t match the performances of the original DopeSick cast. The whole scene where we were waiting for something horrible to happen to Taylor kitsch was lazily written and dragged out. This feels a little like the Transmorphers response to a Transformers film. It looks the same, but it is not. And the pilot is directed by Peter berg, so there is no reason for this.
Episode Grade: C
13) Justified (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Revival Now Airing
This is a low ranking, but in an episode where people are having things done to them, there were more moments than usual where I felt lost. it seemed like Raylon was trying to figure out who was trying to steal kidneys. Desperately needs AD. It was also just a strong day of TV for me.
Episode Grade: B
12) Home Improvement (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
The irony of Tim Allen having to star in an anti-drug episode of the show was not lost on me, considering his rather well known arrest for possession. But that was before the show, so it did feel like he was trying to give knowledge. And for a 90’s sitcom to go the route of admitting the parents had tried pot, even giving Jill a backstory where she went to jail, made her admonishing of Brad feel a bit more honest. Still, these episodes feel someone preachy, and Richard Karn’s ten seconds in this episode were so over the top hokey.

11) Doug (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: No

one of the nostalgia watches that is working for me. I didn’t remember the first part as much, with Doug being paired with Patty for a cooking class, but I did remember Doug babysitting Ike.
Episode Grade: B
10) Futurama (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
The Doctor has reached 160 years old and is worried about his legacy, so he clones himself before the robots take him away. Don’t look at me, that’s what the episode is about. Of the many Futurama episodes that have been based on sight gags, this one seemed less so, and I enjoyed it a bit more. I’d still prefer audio description for the series.
Episode Grade: B+
9) The Office (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
A new face in the office has the guys jostling for position. And we learn Michael Scott has a lot of Filet o Fish containers in his car. Of course, I got that out of dialogue, as this show has no audio description for some reason.
Episode Grade: B+
8) Frasier (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: no
Status: Revival Coming Soon
Frasier gets pulled by the new morning shock jocks. The best exchange in the episode was Martin asking Frasier if he could get a copy of the recording because “It’s not every day you get to hear your son on the radio.”, to which he deadpan angrily responded “I’m on the radio everyday!” Sometimes, a truly well written sitcom can be great. This show is a perfect examples of why the WGA deserves what they are asking for.
Episode Grade: B+
7) Swagger (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Not Yet renewed
Don’t get me wrong. i love Swagger. but, the problem is that this storyline this season is bullshit. No one cares when a pedophile is attacked. look at that Larry Nasar guy. Was anyone like “Oh no! not him!” Yet this entire series has people rallying behind this coach that sexually assaulted a minor? I’m sorry, but I have too many people yelling at me to see Sound of Freedom to believe that this plot would work, and to see how it’s being played out is frustrating. I love the team solidarity, and the I Am Jace Carson shirts, but someone needed to simply stand up and say quite plainly what is happening. A predator is controlling the narrative, and harming yet another group of kids, and people are siding with the predator. Any vote against Jace, is a vote for a predator. I hate this story arc, and if it keeps going in the predators direction, I may stop watching Swagger. But for now, I’m trying my best to give a show I love the benefit of the doubt that it will all work out.

6) Survival of The Thickest (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Not Yet Renewed
Now that the breakup is behind us, i really see this show starting to hit its stride. Mavis is hilarious, and the scene with her sister just admonishing her new place was hilarious. I think this series may have a lot of potential. That last bit, with the strap on at the funeral, good stuff.

Man, that poor girl has an awful mother. She finally has the strength to stand up to her mother and come out, and that’s her reaction? After everything? Her mother is irredeemable.

4) 10 Year Old Tom (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Not Yet renewed
The first half with Tom being sued by a man after a tragic watermelon accident is exactly why I love this show. Every moment of that was perfect. The second half felt rushed, and didn’t work so much for me, but the first half would have been enough.E

3) Beavis and Butthead (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes

Loved all of it. From the Butthead Sucks, to the Hoarding, to Beavis being covered in pins. This whole thing made me laugh out loud.
Episode Grade: A
2) Smash (Roku)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Possibly, my favorite episode of the series. It’s the episode where they actually do a soft run of the show. It badly needs audio description, because i remember when On Lexington and 52nd Street is being sung, it’s the time when Julia seems to realize she needs to dump her lover and choose her family. But, so many songs in this episode, including a fantastic performance from Bernadette Peters.

1) The Walking Dead (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Final Season
The finale. I said this would be on top. no matter what. What this show means to me is more than words. This show’s lack of audio description hurts me more than any other title, but I have so many memories of watch parties with friends. it took me this long because after 11 seasons, I still had one friend that wanted to finish the series with me. And we met slowly over time to do just that. This is the end of an era, the series went out on a high note, and if this show ever gets audio description, I will cry. This is my favorite TV show of all time.Final Grade: Thank You.
