The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/30/23

Well, Hulu rocked the internet with the cancellation of The Great. Just me posting that on my personal facebook feed got more comments than anything I’ve posted in the past month. People are irate to say the least. I’m not really sure what that decision was, to not announce a final season, but it’s a very bizarre call for a streamer about to raise their prices. in other TV news, the Lincoln Lawyer was picked up officially by Netflix for Season 3, which I’m not surprised by at all.

12) Outlander (Starz)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Final Season

Still catching up on Season 6, but this episode, where there are “lawmen” trying to collect Claire because they think she murdered someone had a lot of scenes where I wasn’t sure what was going on. i really don’t do this enough with TV shows, but the lack of being able to understand this episode even had my mind wandering. I was questioning if I should keep watching this show. When it’s great, it’s great. But the rest of the time…

11) Desperate Housewives (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Gabrielle was mostly at the center, and her affair started to come out, but also her husband gets arrested. So not a great episode for her. Meanwhile, Bri has lost her damn mind, and while she helped her son get away with a crime, she’s now worried he’s not showing enough remorse so she puts weed in her son’s locker to get him suspended, and he loses his shot at a collegiate athletic scholarship. I’ll keep watching this episode, but the fact that bri is set up as being one of the leads that women were following each week, and her decision making here is utterly insane, I’m tanking this episode. Also, why on earth would Gabi admit to the mother of the kid she’s sleeping with?

10) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Speaking of, we’re still stuck in this weird place where clearly the writers hate Shelly Long and have turned Diane into a stalker that needs medical attention. She’s actually kinda scary. It’s the opposite of endearing, and the writers are taking her character in such a wildly different direction that I can’t wait for her to leave.

9) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

The family goes on Spring Break, where the daughters learn that their mother used to party hard. Meanwhile, they aren’t allowed to. There’s also a running gag with an old guy who supposedly fought in wars, but keeps listing the plots of war movies.

8) My Adventures With Superman (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: not Yet Renewed

Finally the show gets interesting. Lois figures out Clark is Superman, and to get him to prove it, she attempts suicide. Good call. Jump off that building. God, what if she had been wrong? But now the dynamic has shifted, which means this show has the potential to be interesting.

7) Happy Endings (Roku)

Max still hasn’t come out to his parents yet, and the ladies all help him by playing beards, but doing such a terrible job that Max feels like he has to come out.

6) The Office (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Still not sure how this show skipped the audio description train, but in Season 2, the fire trucks are called, everyone is outside, and michael is trying to teach Ryan his tips for business. It’s clear that Ryan is much smarter than Michael. Also, Jim is trying to keep light conversations going between the rest of the group, and Dwight keeps running around like an idiot.

5) Only Murders In The Building (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Damn, Charles asked Joy to move in really fast. And, why? She seems utterly nuts. Meanwhile, Tina Fey’s rival caster is back and trying to poach Mabel, and someone wrote on Ben’s wall… in lipstick!

Episode Grade: B+

4) Ahsoka (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I feel about the same as I did with the first episode. We are still laying the groundwork, the action scenes are solid, and I’m more invested in a space cat than i thought I ever would be.

Final Grade: B+

3) Never Have I Ever (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Alright kids. This is the Series Finale. Basically, everything works out for everyone. Our three girls got to go do what they wanted to do, as Davie makes it into Princeton, everyone gets whomever they were in love with, and it’s just the happiest damn thing ever. It’s kinda ruined by John Macenroe’s narration at the end that leaves the door open for more. Of what? Is he acknowledging plans that in 15 years, Davie and Ben will do a reboot of this show when they have kids of their own? What is the point of a series finale if you suggest more?

2) Hijack (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

While i was still wrapped up in the mystery of how these things are being accomplished, I have to say, S1E6 has an ending that blew my fucking mind. I did not see that coming. I need an explanation, as we were already told all the hijackers, because that cop found that they didn’t exist. So, this is a person who DOES exist? And used their real name and everything? I feel like we are on a totally different level now. I’m curious as to whether or not Stuart had any idea what was going on.

1) The Bear (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

There are two truths about me regarding The Bear. The first is that I don’t believe this is a comedy. it almost never makes me laugh, and I find the scenes more often than not to be dramatic, and hyper realistic. I don’t know why this is in the comedy race. The second is, after Season 1, i hated Ritchie. The actor and the character. I was viscerally angry when he got an Emmy nomination. However, I initially hated Anthony Carrigan on Barry, and didn’t understand that hype until the final season. Forks, which centered around Ritchie, was such a well written, well done episode, that this shitty character had so much character development, that he went from being one of my most despised entities in any show, to being someone I’m now rooting for to get a nomination for his work. God, this episode was fantastic, and Ritchie made such a massive transformation. Fantastic work.
