The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/16/23

If all you have is Network TV, tonight you are in luck. CBS begins airing the first season of Yellowstone. Give it a looksie. Also, later in the week, look out for the season premiere of the new season of American Horror Story, as well as the final season of Sex Education.

12) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I could have skipped this episode. It’s just this weird Halloween themed episode where Cory thinks he’s turning into a werewolf. However, it does bring Topanga back who hasn’t had anything to do in Season 2, so that’s something.

Episode Grade: B-

11) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

This silly Cheers entry has Sam proposing to Diane (God knows why) again, and somehow winding up getting arrested and having to face a judge. I firmly believe the writers for this show were on break, and they let their kids write a script.

10) The Golden Girls (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Miles just can’t stay away from Rose, which is problematic since Rose’s current boyfriend is the guy trying to kill Miles. Blanche also finds out she has a great grandmother who is a Jewish yank, which keeps her from being a member of a southern heritage women’s group. Honestly, she’s had a lot of yankee inside her already… and yes that is the kind of joke you’d expect for her character.

Episode Grade: B

9) Painkiller (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited Series

And we wrap up this show. It’s not DopeSick, but Uzo Aduba did some nice work. I don’t understand people who think Matthew Broderick was better than michael Stuhlbarg. The one thing this show did better than DopeSick was really hammer home how the Sackler’s basically got off because they called in a favor with Rudy Giuliani.

Episode Grade: B

8) Happy Endings (Roku)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Audio Description would be nice. There’s a lot that happens in this episode, and then a moment comes where Max had a line that was basically “And to think this all happened because we were talking about surviving a zombie apocalypse. Imagine if we ever had a real conversation.”

Episode Grade: B+

7) Minx (Starz)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Again, audio description would be nice. Joyce goes back to her alma mater where her favorite teacher doesn’t remember her, but certainly thinks her sister is the bees knees. Meanwhile, a couple goes public, and two friends do some drugs.

6) Survival of The Thickest (Netflix)

Mavis has a health scare, which allows her parents to try and talk her into getting pregnant and taking her cheating boyfriend back. Meanwhile, Luca is sending her adorable videos from Italy. Mavis is destined to make the wrong choice here.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Foundation (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I understood this Harry flashback episode more than any episode previously, and I thought it was great. Mainly because I didn’t feel so incredibly stupid for once after watching Foundation.

Episode Grade: A-

4) 10 year Old Tom (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet renewed

in the first episode, Tom’s mom buys him a fart machine, which leads people to become medically concerned for Tom. The second part is Tom’s loser uncle getting a job at the school.

Episode Grade: A-

3) The Morning Show (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Alex wants a bigger piece of the pie, Bradley wants to do hard hitting journalism, and Jon Hamm joins the cast. Welcome back. I do love this show, and I hope it runs in drama categories. A show that has dealt now with sexual assault, and suicide, and in the first episode has a serious conversation about abortion rights doesn’t tickle my funny bone. However, the writing and acting are excellent.

Episode Grade: A

2) Veep (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Selina has to furlough some of her people to avert a government shutdown, which leaves Dan and Sue with some free time. Gary and Jonah go dig through trash. Mike can’t even apologize to a lady whose husband was just killed by a bear.

Episode Grade: A

1) Breeders (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Ava comes out to her parents when she says shes inviting her girlfriend over, and Luke still somehow finds a way of taking all the attention.
