The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

The Golden Globe nominations came out and several TV shows managed to work their way onto the list. But, mostly Succession. 1) Bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I’m enjoying the mystery of it all, but my complaint is the same. Even as the story impresses me, there are too many damn characters across too many timelines, and these episodes feel crammed and jumbled. I shouldn’t always be wondering who the hell someone is. but, every episode so far, I either wonder who they are, or what timeline we are in. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Billions (Paramount Plus) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

Some big shows dropping this coming week. Secret invasion! The Walking Dead: Dead City! The Bear! And Just Like That! It is truly an embarassment of riches. Anyway, Happy Fathers Day, and I hope you enjoy this roundup. It’s dedicated to my best friend, who would have turned 40 today. Rest. in Peace. 10) The Clearing (Hulu) English Audio Description: LOL, No. Status: Unknown I love when hulu picks up a show clearly from another English speaking place, and touts it as a Hulu original, but also says fuck audio description. This didn’t even premiere this week. it’s been a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/17/23

Well, the cancellation monster arrived at NBC yesterday and got rid of young Roc and Grand Crew. I believe that leaves only American Auto on the bubble. Meanwhile, ABC passed on all remaining pilots except The Good lawyer, which remains on the bubble with The Rookie Feds and Home Economics. They can extend the contracts past June, but they need to make decisions pretty quickly. 12) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no Status: Ended This trip down memory lane hasn’t quite worked out for me. This episode, someone might have a crush on Clarissa. Episode Grade: … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/09/23

Sometimes I wonder… will we ever get to see the second season of Chad? I know it was cancelled by TBS, but it completed shooting. It was actually cancelled the day it was supposed to have its second season premiere. Did anyone buy the completed second season? Tubi? Roku? Anyone? 14) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Fergus breaks something in the house, and blames it on ghosts, which leads them to doing a seance for some character we’ve never met before with a ridiculous name. It swings for the fences, but strikes out. … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/03/23

Well, that Disney/Hulu pull list I mentioned earlier got a little shorter as the internet clapped back about one title Disney was planning on purging, the documentary Howard, which centers around the composer Howard Ashman who was instrumental in the revival of Disney, starting with The little Mermaid. Not only did it seem in poor taste to remove a documentary about an LGBT icon right before pride month, but also right before the live action adaptation of his work hits the big screen. So, Howard will not be pulled. 13) Great Expectations (Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited Series … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/21/23

Happy Mother’s Day to all those out there who need to hear that. No big news today. That’s it. It’s just Mother’s Day. 13) Family Matters (HBo MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Ended Look at HBO getting that AD on Family Matters. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this show, and I’m not sure I ever saw the pilot. Of course, Family Matters was one of those shows that changed so much as the show progressed. Laura has almost no screentime in the pilot, I forgot she had a younger sister. Steve Urkel doesn’t exist. This is … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/13/23

I read an interesting news story that fans of Netflix shows have noticed that Netflix loves to cancel their product, and are now banding together to try and stop these cancellations. For example, there’s an entire subreddit devoted to Shadow and Bone where over 24K fans keep rewatching the show over and over to keep its numbers up. I wonder if just going to work, and leaving your Netflix running on Shadow and Bone couldn’t at least get you some hours in there. Also, Richard Dreyfuss did an interview where he wanted to know why he can’t play a black … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/06/23

Good news for fans of The morning Show. Apple Plus has already picked that show up for a fourth season before the third season even premieres. 11) The power (Amazon) English Audio Description?: Yes Honestly, I’m as surprised as you are. I was actually looking forward to this series. However, the pilot is very slow. I felt like I was watching a completely different show than the one the trailers had been hyping. it reminded me of how I used to feel when i was hyped for the latest theatrical adaptation of a hot YA title, only for it to … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/30/23

Malcolm X (1992)

Where I Watched it: HBo MAX English Audio Description?: no Just like I did with White Men Can’t Jump, I watched Malcolm X with the intention of filling in a gap in the 1992 titles I’d seen, and hopefully knock out some that were aimed at a different target demo in 1992. In 1992, i still woke up on Saturday mornings and watched my cartoons. So a three hour Malcolm X biopic would have likely put me to sleep. And not only do I want to discuss that runtime, but the fact that this 1992 film still has a historical … Continue reading Malcolm X (1992)
