After The Other Two dropped their big bomb yesterday, Reservation Dogs followed them with the exact same announcement, that the 3rd season will be it’s last. I remember when most shows wanted to hit season 4 because it put syndication into play, but with shows no longer running 22 episode seasons, there’s no need for that. Before my TV news, I have to say that I always enjoy looking at the list of who has just been offered an Academy voting membership each year. To me, there’s always some hilarious comparison of someone who is obviously getting it really early, versus someone who has somehow flown under the water. Paramount Plus is purging again. This time, I won’t be burned by saying everything has already been removed. The biggest cancellation/removal is Inside Amy Schumer. The rest are some documentaries, Paramount Plus original movies (Snow Day and Fantasy Football), and a bunch of Nickelodeon shows, only two of which I had even heard of. CBS already is talking about not being worried about next season as they have Paramount Plus shows to rely on. Meanwhile, since today is Wednesday, in the middle of June, I feel the need to point out that this is when ABC has decided to drop the second season of The Wonder Years. Clearly, it’s a burn off. Well, the cancellation monster arrived at NBC yesterday and got rid of young Roc and Grand Crew. I believe that leaves only American Auto on the bubble. Meanwhile, ABC passed on all remaining pilots except The Good lawyer, which remains on the bubble with The Rookie Feds and Home Economics. NBC announced their fall lineup, which included a Season 2 renewal for Lopez V Lopez, and has left its remaining sitcoms (American Auto, Young Rock, and Grand Crew) on the bubble. NBC also surprisingly revived Transplant with a 2 season order (since the series comes from Canada), and pushed LaBrea’s tiny third (and likely final) season to mid season. Well, fans of SWAT have had a very confusing past couple of days. After cancelling the hit drama on Friday, and seeing a torrent of backlash for cancelling a show that has risen in ratings every season, CBS has reversed its decision and given SWATT a 7th season renewal. A couple more interesting WGA Strike tidbits. The Rings Of Power was told to continue filming without it’s showrunners (who are WGA members, and on strike). So if you were concerned about the quality last season, this could either be a good or bad thing. Probably bad though. Definitely some big TV news yesterday. Kevin Costner’s perpetual temper tantrum has turned into this being the final season of Yellowstone. However, they are planning on doing a sequel spinoff series starring Matthew McConaughey and many of the current Yellowstone cast. Also cancelled is CBS’s 6 season success story SWAT, which was cancelled over money squabbling between CBS and Sony.
