The Too Much TV Roundup- September 1st

I finally had a slower day, and knocked out some shows. So this list is competitive as hell. I know the showrunners of these programs are eagerly awaiting… the results…. No?

1) She hulk (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Jennifer Walters is hitting her stride in the third episode which blended a lot of cameos and Marvel ideas with some regular comedy, as her colleague was forced to defend the douchebag from the first episode who claims he lavished Megan The Stallion with 175K in gifts, only to find out it wasn’t really her… it was a shapeshifting Asgardian. Meanwhile, Wong shows up to help A-Bob get out of jail… legally this time. I like the tone, and how it sets itself apart from the other shows. Miss Marvel was trying to do the same thing, and find its own path. I think this is really important for these shows going forward.

Episode Grade: A

2) What We Do In The Shadows (FX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

This could have been on top of the list today, but sadly, FX and Hulu only believe in describing the first two episodes of things (The Old Man?) but since I’m 4 seasons deep, I pretty well know these chaps by now, and I would ahve loved to have had audio description for this Night Market episode, which I’m sure featured some really great visual aesthetics, as well as action sequences in the cage fighting. All of that was lost on me, but luckily the cast is hilarious, and Colin Robinson was learning about something called Rumpledickskin.

Episode Grade: A

3) Reservation Dogs (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

So this gem actually is from Season 1, but I’m on a rewatch since they added audio description, before diving into season 2. The gang goes to visit an old man to learn how to fight, but really just end up trying to help him sell his ancient weed that he had buried underground for many many years.

Episode Grade: A

4) Fairfax (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

in the final of four series to get A grades yesterday, the gang gang found themselves trying their best to accept Truman’s AI girlfriend, which they do, but then the goes all SkyNet and decides that the Gang Gang must go.Is the Gang Gang over? Probably not. but this episode was halla entertaining.

Episode Grade: A

5) Loot (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Molly only needs one love interest. That’s really my only problem with this episode, the 7th of the season. I know it’s petty, but just as Bezos’s ex married a schoolteacher, Molly is destined to be with this incredibly average Nat Faxon. Good guys deserve to win billionaires sometimes too.

Episode Grade: A-

6) Rap Shit (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description/: Yes

Creeping up. An episode that was well balanced, considerably more focused than the pilot, and really explored its cast by furthering their individual story arcs, even the supporting male characters. The best written episode so far, hopefully the show can maintain this, as I’m finally letting it run free for now, and it doesn’t ahve to worry about getting kicked off my list. Plus, it does have audio description, which the recently jettisoned Everything’s Trash does not.

Episode Grade: B

7) Man VS Bee (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

In the 4th short episode, I was asked to believe that a grown individual would have a calm reaction to having dog shit on their face, and that Rowan Atkinson’s character, who shows very little intelligence, somehow got someone to marry him, and he’s been fathering a daughter now for years. Previously, Mr Bean worked because we didn’t know the backstory. The Naked Gun worked because Leslie Nielsen’s character wasn’t raising a child. This series wants us to believe that both can be true, and sadly, it cannot.

Episode Grade: C
