The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/04/23

The strike has been going on for a lot longer than the studios thought they would. That’s for sure. I haven’t seen another movie abandon ship from 2023 yet. Only movies that cost a lot of money are likely to do so.

14) Desperate Housewives (Hulu)

English Audio Description: No

Status: Ended

I’m finally ten episodes in. And while there were moments I understood, there were plenty I did not. Lots of quiet scenes, or a scene like Felicity Huffman’s mom taking a break to watch her nanny try to get her kids to eat Brussel Sprouts. It sounded like her kids were going nuts, but they always were. But did they eat the damn sprouts? There are like 10 seasons of this show, it’s not that old, and it bothers me that there isn’t any audio description.

Status: Unwatchable

13) Dinosaurs (Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Watching the Sinclair family go through school closures reminded me so much of me staying up to see if I had a snow day the next day. Back in the day, we didn’t have texts from the school, or apps, you got your school closures from the TV. And apparently so did the dinosaurs.

Episode Grade: C+

12) Friends (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

A rather lackluster episode. Chandler has the hots for a girl joey dated that has a prothstetic leg that he once threw in a fire by accident. Also, Ross is jealous that Rachel is spending time with some random friend from work that’s also a guy, and phoebe is angry when a talented songwriter (guest star Elizabeth Daly) shows up again in her life and wants to write songs again together.

Episode Grade: B-

11) Happy Endings (Roku)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

An oddly Brad centric episode, where he is trying to figure out when the right time to tell his father that he loves him is.

Episode Grade: B

10) Seaquest DSV (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I love that every episode ends with some educational marine lesson that Peacock always cuts off to move onto the next episode. This has a lot going on, centering around artifacts, and the ship using weapons to send a message. And there’s a woman who can enter other people’s minds. It’s Star Trek, but underwater.

Episode Grade: B

9) The After Party (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I’ve loved every episode of the season so far, but when we get to the fun uncle episode, it was not what I expected from John Cho. There are some suggestions that he did experience what he talks about, but the episode focused on a completely different story, and I missed out on how he learned all these secret traditions of native tribes, or how he became good at random things. What was interesting about this man of mystery wasn’t explored, and he became a plot device.

Episode Grade: B

8) The Wonder Years (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet renewed

Well, if that’s a wrap on the Wonder Years reboot, it’s a disappointing season finale, and potential series finale. It’s just a synergy episode where they go to Disneyland. However, props to the production team if they actually made it look like Disneyland from that time period.

Episode Grade: B

7) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Coming Soon

When their Dad has an item appraised by Antiques Roadshow they assumed was crap, Frasier and Nile’s start believing they are Romanovs. It’s not as funny as you would think.

Episode Grade: B

6) And Just Like That (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Best part of the episode: Miranda going with Carrie and Aiden to see Che’s return to stand-up, only to find out all the jokes were at her expense. Second best: Anthony is a top? What? Third Best: Aiden crying. Worst? Carrie saying she doesn’t know 16 people to invite to a dinner party she won that would be catered by a Michelin star chef. 1) Carrie, 2) Aiden, 3) Seema, 4) Seema’s current director boyfriend, 5) Lisa, 6) Lisa’s husband, 7) Miranda, 8) Che, 9) Maya, 10) Charlotte, 11) Charlotte’s husband, 12) Carrie’s neighbor she likes, 13) Anthony, 14) The Italian, and the last two spots could go to either Charlotte’s kids, Miranda’s son and her ex-husband (who Carrie visits in this episode), or any number of recurring cast members. They needed to give her a bigger number than 16, because now I think Carrie Bradshaw is either an idiot, or self centered.

Episode Grade: B

5) All In The Family (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

As Edith will later summarize what the episode is about: “Mike fell in love with a wig.”

Episode Grade: B+

4) The Good Wife (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Alicia and the squad has to face off against former partner Jonas, who stole their client and is now pushing for way more than Lockhart and Gardener were. The episode then starts revolving around a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed, while meanwhile Peter is still trying to figure out the next move. in a great scene, he’s in the basement with another man, when he shockingly tears his shirt open… because the guy was wearing a wire. What were you thinking>?

Episode Grade: B+

3) Billions (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status:Final Season

I’m still catching up, but prince is inching closer to getting his Olympic aspirations, until Paul Giamatti creates a traffic jam and hits back with a megaphone speech to rally New Yorkers against Prince.

2) Glamorous (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Marco is the only one Madeline hasn’t shut out, which means Chad needs Marco, but marco is headed to Provincetown with their boyfriend for the 4th, so Chad makes Ben help him track Marco down so they can spend quality time and get info on Madeline. However, this puts Parker and Ben in the same space, which does not end well.Episode Grade: A-

1) Good Omens (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: not Yet Renewed

The season 1 finale, where the end of the world is averted largely by a child. Then, the angels and demons learn that Crowley and Azraiel have become something else. And that frightens them. Neither one can be destroyed. Season 2 should be interesting.
