The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/24/23

A tentative deal has been reached between the studios and the writers. The details have yet to be made public, but should be shortly as the membership has to vote on it. An official vote by leadership happens on Tuesday, which will solidify this a bit more, and possibly allow some writers to return to work. Most writers will have to wait until the contract is fully ratified by the WGA as a whole, but writers for talk shows are expected to resume possibly later this week, as all they need is for Tuesday’s vote to pass.

11) Daryl Dixon (AMC Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

Once again, the show is too much in French to follow. There was an entire scene in French between two people who have Daryl’s recording device, that i had no idea what was being said. Also, the opening scene in the theatre was bizarre and I couldn’t follow that either. Otherwise, it appeared that Daryl was in the catacombs looking for the cast of As above So Below.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

10) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I guess I’ll throw one of my favorites at the bottom. but, this episode, which featured Cory and Topanga working on a video about sex, and falling asleep together at school, had some moments where I questioned how this took place. Seriously, no one noticed them? The janitor found them in the morning? What phone did they use to call home? In my school, the phones in the classrooms didn’t call out, just to other classrooms/the office. The destination may have been nice, but the road to get there was a bit bumpy.

9) The Hardy Boys (Hulu)

I was quite disappointed in the season premiere that Joe couldn’t tell that this person wasn’t his brother. It was pretty obvious. How can they be great investigators if Joe misses such a huge thing like that?

5) Smash (Roku)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Part of me wants to rate this episoe just on the merits of how good the two Bombshell songs are that were featured. On Lexington and 52nd Street is sung a little again, but Secondhand White Baby grand is all over this episode, with a full performance at the end. Every time it popped up, I wasn’t along. However, this is also the episode where Dev sings. Karen and Rebecca become friends in a useless subplot, because Rebeca has got to go. The episode ends on a cliffhanger where the actress that can’t sing wants this new song that ivy just sang. No. Just. No. I forget how Rebecca exits, but I’m hoping the next episode is Derek firing her.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Shelter (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

At the beginning, I was skeptical of how this teenager, who just lost a parent in a car accident and another is fighting for their life, is supposed to uncover a Harlan Cobin mystery. Then, the show, instead of making me feel like this kid has untapped sleuthing potential, continued to introduce a barrage of characters, and throw a dozen bizarre twists at us. Am i intrigued? Sure. It’s hard not to be when there’s this much madness packed into one episode. This pilot was a bit much, and with all the mystery, I’m still not really sure who these people actually are.

1) Everwood (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

It’s been a long time since I allowed a show without AD to be on top. The Season 2 opener of Everwood, which had everyone dealing with the loss of Colin is worth it. The whole town blames Andy, and he is getting the cold shoulder all around. This bleeds into Delia being uninvited from a sleepover. It’s a nice showcase for the late Treat Williams, as Andy has to reconcile what happened, with how to move forward, and a great example of how Everwood is one of the best shows of all time. Yes, i said it.
