The Too Much TV roundup- 09/29/23

Well, the shoe dropped. ABC officially cancelled Home Economics. It’s an odd decision, considering everything I’ve read suggests that sitcoms are the quickest thing to get back on the air. But, I guess ABC doesn’t feel like it had a place for it.Still to be determined: the fate of The Rookie” Feds.

11) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I’m going to pull the trigger finally here and say this show needs audio description. I’ve been letting it off the hook, but this multi-part storyline about war really highlights the need for audio description. I’ve been able to watch it a bit more because I’ve seen the show before, but there are short segments in the episode with just music. Not only do I think it’s rewarding for any kids coming up to know what these character designs are, but this episode is really highlighting how much this does need it. Add to that, there’s no in studio audience or canned laughter, so if there’s a sight gag, you may never know.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

10) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Justified consistently is a difficult watch. As much as I’m enjoying the concept of Boyd battling it out with a religious zealot, there are always things happening that seem to require audio description, that aren’t getting it.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

9) Futurama (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Season Just Ended

Still in Season 3. While I mostly got the concept of Fry and his ex girlfriend, and some great gags like the guest appearance by Pauly Shore, honestly this is a show that has a ton of sight gags that never get described. It might feel watchable, but it’s only because you don’t always know what you’re missing.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

8) Strange Planet (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

A very interesting look at sports, but also comparing them with how animals interact. Always interesting to see how this show describes certain events, though I do wish the show was funnier.

Episode Grade: B+

7) Game Of Thrones (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

A little bit more world building happens, as this episode bounces between characters. There was a moment, when Bran was seemingly captured that I couldn’t remember if this was the Hodor episode or not. Not just yet.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Fleabag (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Hot Priest. Andrew Scott is now in a film where he might get an Oscar nomination, and he’ll likely always be Hot Priest.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Minx (Starz)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I hope this isn’t the end for minx. But, it was a nice way to wrap up Season 2 of the show, setting the characters all off on missions that could redefine Minx. I really just didn’t like tina this episode. It’s so weird to think that she can’t really ever get past her own issues. A couple episodes ago, we saw that whole speech about how tina was the first person he wanted to share his news with, and he has followed through on that. Tina doesn’t feel the same way, but seems to think that means the world is against her. It’s not. He told you as soon as he found out about the company sale, and he told you as soon as he was offered that job. He has done exactly what he said. Yet, Tina still gets to storm off?

Episode Grade: B+

4) Telemarketers (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

One thought. if you mask someone’s voice so much they are unintelligible, then perhaps dial it back just a smidge? This show is still fascinating, even though we’ve all known telemarketers suck.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Solar Opposites (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed?

The Opposites want a pet, and they resurrect Dino from The Flintstones. There’s also a bit of that space cop thing this show started last season.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Twisted Metal (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Our duo faces off against the Holy Men, and their leader, Preacher. Can john get his car back from them?
