Women Talking
Where I Watched It: iTunes VOD English Audio Description Provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: laura Post get ready for a man to mansplain women talking. If there wasn’t a more hilarious juxtaposition, it has to be the overwhelmingly large amount of male film critics having opinions about women talking. I could throw in the towel, praise the film outright, call it one of the years best, and move on. It’s a Best Picture nominee, so who would challenge that? It won Adapted Screenplay! Well, strap in ladies, because this man has some splaining to do. Women Talking takes place in … Continue reading Women Talking
The Too Much TV Roundup: 03/15/23
Today, I do have a spot of TV News. Disney Plus, likely to the surprise of no one, cancelled their disappointing Willow TV series. It’s all about the casting, guys. And, also…. Bringing a property back from the 80’s that’s aimed at the younger crowd, who probably haven’t seen Willow, was maybe a mistake. 7) Will Trent (ABC/Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Someone had to lose today, so it might as well be one of the shows that did not provide audio description. This has very much been a recurring problem with Will Trent, which leads me to believe ABC … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup: 03/15/23
The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/14/23
I’m not sure I have a profound revelation about television today other than that I did finally check out one of those very few licensed films Apple Plus hosts for a short term, only to find out it did not have audio description. For shame. 6) 1923 (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes This show is a bit all over the place sometimes, proving that perhaps Taylor Sheridan has too many fires in the oven. The focus was back on the Duttons, and the strongest part of this episode was Jake (Harrison Ford) actually having something to do other than … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/14/23
The Whale
Where I Watched it: iTunes English Audio Description Provided By Deluxe Narrated By: laura Post Back before I saw the movie, or really before anyone had seen the movie, I was in a Facebook group that prohibited its members from discussing this film because it would bring up emotions for the plus sized community. Basically, someone went on a tirade about how the movie was fat phobic, using the word fat a dozen times, and talking about how triggering all this was. Me, being me, told that guy to fuck right off, explained to me that I believe we are … Continue reading The Whale
The Inspection
Where I Watched it: Apple VOD English Audio Description Provided By Deluxe Narrated By Michelle Deco Jeremy Pope’s awards run seemed to begin and end with his nomination at the Golden Globes, something I thought for sure would result in more attention. I was a little surprised that we ended up with a giant marshmallow of whiteness in the Best Actor block at the Oscars, but after seeing Jeremy Pope’s performance… I kinda understand why he missed the cut. The Inspection, is based on a true story, or at least a real person, and that makes it hard for me … Continue reading The Inspection
The Too Much TV Roundup: 03/13/23
First off, I wanted to start off todays list by stating that yesterday, when I mentioned the Oscar’s Red Carpet, the way I chose to phrase my snarky comments made it almost sound like I didn’t like the audio description team. My comments were directed specifically at the hosts responsible for asking inane questions, like how Hugh Grant enjoyed his cameo in Glass Onion. Now with that out of the way, here we go. 8) Animal Control (FOX/Hulu) English Audio Description?: No This is one of those shows where the lead actor has bought it some grace period, but I … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup: 03/13/23
Babylon
Where I Watched It: paramount Plus English Audio Description?: Yes Nominated for three Oscar’s, Babylon was noted this year for being an expensive dump of elephant crap. That’s not exactly the best way to think about Babylon, but even before this film was released in theatres, I heard mixed things. Basically, if you can make it past the first ten minutes, this three hour tour won’t bother you. But, Damien Chazelle banking a 100M+ oscar bait movie on a film that starts with an elephant shitting all over someone is a tough ask. He might be getting a little big … Continue reading Babylon
Somebody I Used To Know
Where I Watched it: Amazon English Audio Description Provided By Media Access Group I followed Allison Brie into Spin Me round last year, and still in my mind, she can’t do wrong. Even after this film, which she made with husband Dave Franco in the director’s chair, i still want to see things she’s in. That’s star power, when you choose a film based entirely on one cast member. Yes, this film is so close to the plot of young Adult, I rolled my eyes outside of my head. But, the cast can be charming. The plot revolves around Brie, … Continue reading Somebody I Used To Know
Oscars: A Bunch Of First Time Winners Make History
The Oscars are behind us, and we are back at square one, or to paraphrase, we are now nothing, nowhere, all at once. A24 proved their Oscar dominance by winning big with their titles Everything Everywhere All At Once, which left them with an almost complete sweep of the above the line categories (minus Sarah Polley’s win for Women Talking). Overall, the studio led the pack with the most wins, followed by Netflix, whose war drama All Quiet On The Western Front turned out to be their strongest contender, winning 4 Oscars. But, which categories did I get correct? Which … Continue reading Oscars: A Bunch Of First Time Winners Make History
The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/12/23
Around the Oscar’s, I still managed to watch a spot of television. I did watch the Oscars. And they will be ranked. 9) The Oscars Red Carpet (ABC) English Audio Description?: Yes Points to the live audio description, but our hosts this year were dreadful. Oddly enough, the guy they found with the social following was the best of that group. Ask better questions. And why couldn’t Hugh Grant be bothered? Final Grade: C+ 8) The Great North (FOX/ Hulu) English Audio Description?: No I cannot for the life of me remember what happened. Like, my brain is struggling to … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/12/23
The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/11/23
I got through a little more TV during Oscar week. Not much. not my usual Saturday. 6) Your honor (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No The fact that Showtime and P+ have merged, and Showtime is changing its name to reflect that, and this fucking service has been on Paramount plus since the start of September, and they *still* refuse to upload audio description is just unfuckingbelievable to me. I’m not grading this. Paramount Plus, your treatment of the blind community is rancid dogshit. Episode Grade: Who The Fuck Knows I’m tired of making excuses. 5) Not Dead Yet (ABC/Hulu) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/11/23
The Too Much TV Roundup: 03/10/23
Here’s a look at the small amount of TV I watched yesterday. 4) National Treasure: Edge Of Hedge (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Well, this roller coaster, borderline disaster of a series has come to an end. Thank you Jeebus. Disney, it’s OK to cancel this. i give you permission. it’s actually unfair to let this continue to wander about while Big Shot and The mighty Ducks are no more. Episode Grade: C+, Season 1 Grade: C+ 3) The Connors (ABC/Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes What a weird lesson. Mark isn’t passionate about music so he shouldn’t use it … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup: 03/10/23
Your Place Or mine
Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description Provided By: International Digital Center I can line these two up and list the good not great romantic comedies they’ve already been responsible for. They’re the kind of comedies that are charming enough, but somehow don’t reach that top level of romantic comedy where they live forever, like Pretty Woman, arguably always a solid standard. But while Reese Witherspoon can make a good case that she too has classics with Sweet Home Alabama and Legally Blonde, Ashton Kutcher seems to be a bit more populated by likely forgotten titles like Just Married, … Continue reading Your Place Or mine
My Final Oscar Predictions
It’s that time. We all lock in our predictions, and for better or worse, we become beholden to them. I’m still looking to increase my street credibility, so when I deviate slightly from the presumed front runner, I have to be certain about my deviation, or the payoff has to be worth it. I plan to be 100% honest, so if you don’t want to follow me with my exact predictions, the alternate path should be obvious. BEST PICTURE: Seemingly an easy to pick category, except this is the one category that slaps you in the face if you think … Continue reading My Final Oscar Predictions
The Not Enough Time Roundup- 03/09/23
Still using my time to rewatch Oscar nominees more than shows. 5) The Daily Show With Marlon Wayans (Comedy/Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no He did better than i expected. I don’t think he packs quite the same punch as some others, but neither did Trevor Noah. I’m still rooting for Chelsea Handler right now. Episode Grade: B+ 4) The Masked Singer (FOX/Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Well, they rang that bell fast. Episode Grade: B_+ 3) Lockwood and Company (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes The mystery spreads as the gang is offered the chance to be in a graveyard … Continue reading The Not Enough Time Roundup- 03/09/23
