Silo: Foward momentum. Camille finds what she’s looking for, Juliette tries to make her play after remembering Silo 17, and the Sheriff might have found out who killed the Shadow. It’s a shame the Shadow died, because they know what evil lurks in the hearts of men. Nice audio description, not a lot of surprises for the audio description,but it held up nicely.
Stuart Fails- Another brilliant episode, with two more cameos by Big bang fan favorites. At this rate, I’m wondering who said No. A few more major characters still need to pop up, but we’ve done pretty well so far. The opening credits are great, and I thought the AD this week was pretty solid, no random asshole moment to knock it out of contention. Eli Schiff is doing some nice work here. Is this Point 360 or Zoo? HBO keeps kicking me out, assuming I need to binge The Big Bang Theory.
XO Kitty- Season Finale. I do intend to review. Supposedly, this is on the Heartstopper bubble. They are considering doing to this what they did to Heartstopper, and instead of ordering a fourth and final season, just doing a movie instead. The AD here by DVW, narrated primarily by Justin Smallbridge, has been excellent all season.I love the use of multiple narrators.
Deli Boys- And we are back to synthetic. I already reviewed this yesterday, so if you want more than that, check out my review.
Kevin- This adult animation (which got cancelled anyway) has such a hard time helping me remember which animal everyone is. I have a similar problem with Mating Season, though that one has a few main characters, and here we have Kevin and… so I forget most of the ensemble. This was a cute episode though about kennel cough, and how sometimes a cold is passed between animals in these spaces.
Little House On The Prairie- It’s still goofy, but they refuse to miss the opportunity to have a Christmas episode. I’m not in love with the choice of name for the baby, but John made it a bit easier to understand with that nickname. The AD here is pretty great when the writing lands, because Roy is performing his ass off, trying to find the right tone and emotion for the scene. Sometimes, it is just as simple as being able to hear someone smiling.
The Best: A tough decision. Stuart Fails, XO Kitty, and Little House are all doing things that feel top notch. If I had to pick one, I’d lean on Little House. It’s really nice audio description and from VSI Los Angeles, which is far more competent than VSI London apparently (for context, I have a review of Big Chicken).
The Worst: Well, Kevin is a bit of a struggle to get through, but that synthetic voice on Deli Boys just pisses me off. I mean, I can have conversations about the use of synthetic voice.Amazon using it to deepen their catalog, by putting AI on things that if their original distributor cared, would have AD already. So they are going out of their way to expand accessibility on things they don’t own. But here, this is a Hulu original, American show, which had human description, and this dude does not abide.
