Today is MAX day! Except… it’s not here just yet. I checked my apps, and HBO MAX still works. Basically, at some point today, you will be prompted to get the new MAX app. There are a few pieces of tech that support HBo MAX right now and use a screen reader that won’t work with MAX, like PS4. American idol crowned a winner last night. I’m watching it today. Well, that Disney/Hulu pull list I mentioned earlier got a little shorter as the internet clapped back about one title Disney was planning on purging, the documentary Howard, which centers around the composer Howard Ashman who was instrumental in the revival of Disney, starting with The little Mermaid. Not only did it seem in poor taste to remove a documentary about an LGBT icon right before pride month, but also right before the live action adaptation of his work hits the big screen. Disney Plus and hulu are dropping several shows from their services here in a few days, so if you hadn’t finished any of these shows: Willow, Big Shot, The mysterious Benedict Society, Turner and hooch, The World According To Jeff Goldblum, Maggie, Pistol, y The Last Man, Little Demon, Dollface, or any of the movies or specials disappearing with them, now would be the time to catch up. I would recommend a binge of Big Shot if you never got to see it. Well, ABC certainly had a big day. in general, all of Disney did. Disney Plus even made some big date announcements, putting Loki Season 2 in October and Echo in November. But, over at ABC, they have enough unscripted content to make the fall interesting. Not only is Dancing With The Stars back, but they’re changing the Bachelor format this year to feature The Golden Bachelor, for women of a certain age. Well, FOX is still holding out on some decisions but announced a writer’s proof schedule full of reality TV. They even revived Kitchen Nightmares. I believe ABC is the only network that hasn’t done an upfront yet, possibly also The CW. FOX has given a second season to the comedy Animal Control. Also, Disney is planning on merging Hulu into Disney Plus by the end of the year, and is currently in negotiations to buy out Comcast on their remaining shares. So your kids can watch Encanto and American Horror Story in one place! I have been integrating more and more reruns into my Lineup, a trend I’m personally enjoying. Well, fans of SWAT have had a very confusing past couple of days. After cancelling the hit drama on Friday, and seeing a torrent of backlash for cancelling a show that has risen in ratings every season, CBS has reversed its decision and given SWATT a 7th season renewal. That renewal comes at the expense of Freshman drama East New York, which was looking good for renewal and instead got the boot. I read an interesting news story that fans of Netflix shows have noticed that Netflix loves to cancel their product, and are now banding together to try and stop these cancellations. For example, there’s an entire subreddit devoted to Shadow and Bone where over 24K fans keep rewatching the show over and over to keep its numbers up. I wonder if just going to work, and leaving your Netflix running on Shadow and Bone couldn’t at least get you some hours in there. I celebrated Star Wars Day by not watching any Star Wars. Listen. i watched and reviewed all the titles last year before obi Wan dropped. I’m good to go for this year. Also, production on some shows continue to shut down due to the writers strike. I can’t claim a shortage of good news today. The WGA voted finally to go on strike, which is officially happening right now. That means all guild writers, which is most of Hollywood, have ceased working on their projects. This affects shows with quick turnover rates first, like late night talk and variety shows. So until this strike is over, expect Colbert, Meyers, Fallon, Kimmel, and others to be reruns. This also likely ended Saturday Night Live’s season, unless a deal is reached soon.
