The Small Screen Diaries- 06/19/24

Hope you enjoyed your Juneteenth celebrations. I’ve been stuck in my house with unbelievable fumes after having my bathroom retailed and bathtub resurfaced. I feel like a Resident Alien in my own home. Speaking of, that show just got a 4th season pick up, but is moving to USA instead of Syfy.

Of course I watched The acolyte (Disney Plus) first thing in the morning. I’m mostly enjoying the show, though my interest has waned a little bit. The original concept of this mysterious person managing to kill Jedi was intriguing, but that hasn’t quite played off quite like it could. This big reveal of who this smith lord type character at the end is really doesn’t have me in suspense. I think it’s Coral. Props to the audio description team for incorporating the nuts and bolts of what makes a Star Wars franchise, by including how we wipe into the next scene, whether it be diagonally, right to left, but these are things that represent the style of Star Wars and help answer questions of what are the little things that make this different from other science fiction shows. I’m very grateful that this technological look at filmmaking is happening, beyond the typical play by play.

The penultimate episode of Season 2 of The Big Door prize (Apple Plus) left Dusty with some pretty important decisions to make, so he beat the crap out of the machine. If an Emmy voter ever reads my site, please consider Josh Segura as Best Supporting Actor in a comedy. He deserves it.

Tires (Netflix) needs to be watched by all those people who claim “they don’t make jokes like that anymore”. Netflix has given Shane Gilles the rope to create one of those shows. It’s not my favorite show, but it is certainly a big swing in terms of daring to say and do comedy with zero political correctness.

I also watched more of Blood Of Zeus (Netflix) which is interesting. It has some cool stuff going on, and I’m glad this was recommended to me, though I also don’t love it enough to then pass that recommendation on. There are shows I adore far more than this, and would love to see do well in the ratings game. This is fine, and I inherently love Greek mythology shows.

And, I got through the episode of Jerrod Carmichael’s Reality Show (MAX) where he talks about losing his mother. I’m so intrigued to see where and how this lands with Emmy voters.

Say Something!
