The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/11/23

Emmy Nominations are being announced at 11:30EST this morning. may the odds be ever in your shows favor. Unless your show is Yellowstone. In which case, you’ll need much more than a Hunger Games quote for a show the Emmy voters continuously ignore.

11) American Born Chinese (Disney plus)

English Audio Description: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Perhaps this should have been the pilot. It goes much deeper into the other realm of Monkey business this show hints at. it’s such a weird show. I feel like it’s this great 10,000 piece puzzle that the picture looks great on the box, but we’ve only just started by finding the four corner pieces. 9,996 pieces left to go. Basically, I want to like this, but I’m so deeply lost and confused.

Episode Grade: C+

10) Futurama (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Later This month

Nixon steals Bender’s body. I feel like that says it all.

Episode Grade: B

9) Friends (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Monica ends up with a race car bed. i feel like that says enough.

Episode Grade: B

8) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Ended

Hard to really describe the one clear message from this episode, as really everyone has something going on. Rory’s hiding fireworks, Bridget is grounded and upset, and the other one has a deep dark secret.

Episode Grade: B

7) FUBAR (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

i might have liked this episode a bit more if the guy they broke out clearly wasn’t trying to escape prior to the big reveal that he does, in fact, escape.

Episode Grade: B

6) George and Tammy (Paramount Plus) George and Tammy (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

The show is slow, but has good performances. Jessica Chastain takes over the third episode as she deals with a birth that requires extensive surgery, and leaves her in pain. This show does not paint George in a good light.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Mad Men (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Betty was talking to a neighbor whose husband was cheating on her, and i first thought WHO is this? I thought the neighbor didn’t have a husband. Some random neighbor? WHO ARE YOU? And at the top, someone is on a phone call and i also don’t know who they are. I’m starting to realize I have a massive grasp on the leads, but the ensemble cast? not so much.

episode Grade: B+

Bupkus (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Props for not ending this season by killing off Joe Pesci, and despite some interesting cameos, the season finale ends in a really odd place.

Episode Grade: B+

3) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Reviving Next Week

This show has an interesting way of handinling the slow introduction of Mags, but despite having a solid plot around trying to find a woman broken out of jail and her baby, before they wind up dead, every episode is hurt by my struggle with the lack of audio description.Episode

Grade: B+

2) The lake (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

This show is a pleasant surprise if you’ve never watched it. Not a huge cast, and no one is really talking about it, but I wish more people would.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Silo (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Episode 7 really lets the shit hit the fan. I’m afraid to go into detail because of the amount of spoilers dropped in this episode, but for a show that’s felt constantly twisty and turning, with lots of mic drop moments, it’s amazing to realize this show still has a lot up its sleeve.

Episode Grade: A+
