Updated to ios 16, and I’m trying to get used to my new narrator voice. They totally eliminated my original one, so I’m just trying different ones to see what works. Kind of like how two new shows ended up on this list. Just trying out new things.
9) Fakes (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I don’t know. The pilot was Ok. Nothing really jumped out at me. The show is a half-hour that centers on some teens who learn to make Fake ID’s. It wasn’t bad, but it did nothing to hook me. It’s a half hour, which usually lends itself to comedy, but other than them trying to live at 123 Santa Claus Lane, I didn’t really laugh. There are too many shows for me to keep watching something I’m indifferent toward, and something I can’t see Netflix picking up, as I haven’t heard much about this.
Episode Grade: C+
8) Fire Country (CBS/Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
On one hand, the show gave me exactly what I wanted. A non-fire related emergency. It answered my question of whether there would be a fire in every episode, so it’s nice to know that there won’t be. They can manage that balance. Then again, what was this? The fourth episode? There were characters in danger during this episode that I never felt were in real danger. While I appreciate Bodhie looking into his friends innocence and getting that lawyer to take a look at his case, the show also telegraphed to me a likely character death when his mom says how perfect her life is, having bodhie back, being a candidate for a clinical trial, and being excited for a road trip. I can see this show removing her from the equation, and forcing father and son to have to deal with their problems head on without an intermediary. The fact I can see it coming, is not a great sign in the writers room.
Episode Grade: B
7) 7) So Help Me Todd (CBS/Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
When mom wants to get into an exclusive society, she ends up embroiled in a drug running scheme and trying to get Todd help prove someone’s innocence. This show is finding it’s groove fast, but sometimes Todd is a bit too much of a doofus. I love Skylar Astin, but sometimes, I wish hee was a bit more of a savant than Ace ventura.
Episode Grade: B+
6) The Devil In Ohio (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
The other new show I started, and this one has me interested enough to at least consider coming back for a second episode. Emily Deschanel leads this show that is kinda creepy, but also might make people afraid to foster kids. So, there’s the unintentional side effect. we shall see where this goes.
Episode Grade: B+
5) Alaska Daily (ABC/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
That poor little dude landed his first story and he might be investigating an eco terrorist. Luckily, Hilary Swank is around to guide him in the right direction. An odd episode, but somewhat engaging.
episode Grade: B+
4) Abbott Elementary (ABC/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
The hit new comedy finally gets a Halloween episode. It really made me realize how much more screentime the janitor is getting now.
Episode Grade: A-
3) Saturday night Live (NBC/Peacock)
English Audio Description?: No
I know, this makes me feel like an old man, but I had no idea who Jack Harlow was. none. I still don’t. But, much like how Peyton Manning was a delightful surprise as a guest, he was hilarious in several skits. Plus, for the first time this season, I pretty much laughed the whole way through. Regardless of who they were roasting, or how bizarre the sketch, I thought this was the best week in a long time.
Episode Grade: A
2) Big Shot (Disney Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Coach is not happy that his game has been moved to 430 so the boys can have prime time. It puts the girls at a huge disadvantage in terms of an audience. Also, the girls get together to do a little home renovation and realize they are in over their heads.
Episode Grade: A
1) Beavis and Butthead (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Hilarious again. The whole thing revolving around the jury trial was perfect. I love the moments where you think Butthead is about to say something profound, but really the room just reads way too much into it. Not every revival works, but this one has been top notch like it never went away.
