The Too Much TV Roundup- November 9th

Not happy with my local ABC affiliate. They bumped Tournament Of Champions, and instead of putting it on their backup station, they did nothing. No announcement at the time Jeopardy was supposed to be of where it would be, when it would air. No consideration at all. It would have taken them all of five seconds, and they couldn’t manage that. I’m watching news from a different channel now.

6) Miss Scarlet and the Duke (PBS)

English Audio Description?: No

I’ve heard this show has audio description. Maybe it’s just for its streaming launch wherever or whenever that is. In the meantime, I can follow this show about 2/3rds of the time. That 1/3rd sucks.

Episode Grade: B-

5) The Last Light (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I’m one of the few people who has Peacock with ads, for now, until they expand their content with audio description. That means, apparently for this show, commercials are interjected whenever the hell they want. I hate shows like this that make it feel like a global phenomenon, but only focus on certain areas. It’s even weirder, since MAtthew Fox is the star, and there aren’t references to how America is handling this crisis. The actual plot of the story unfolds a lot more in the second episode, but it broke my heart when the little blind kid lost his medicine. With everything going on, why does this kid still get a raw deal?

Episode Grade: B

4) Devil In ohio (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

A deeper look into May’s past keeps getting creepier. I hope all of this pays off in the end, and isn’t some silly nonsense. The show always feels like it’s one second from a jump scare, but it never gets there. You can only hold tension for just so long. The third episode showed us more of May’s life before, but without context.I’m starting to worry about the payoff.

Episode Grade: B+

3) Andor (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

In the 8th episode, Cyril is still annoying, Cassian’s mom is ill, Forest Whitaker guest stars, and Cassian learns how to get flavor in your food, and also plays a real world application of The Floor is lava. My grade is more reflective of there having been better episodes of this before.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

In what I assume is the final episode, this show was not afraid to “go there” when it came to the dinosaurs eating some bad guys. It wasn’t gory, but very heavily implied. Meanwhile, Kenji is officially at a point in his life where he will need a new parent after this show is over. Will he be adopted by Darius’s family, or Ben’s? his dad can’t come back from this. the final moments were legit sad.

Episode Grade: A

1) Atlanta (FX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I’m telling you, the audio description on this show is making all the difference. I’m propelling this to the top. Earn’s therapy session, and how he used his newfound influence and money to ruin the life of a racist was kinda brilliant.I know we’re supposed to feel like he went too far, but hearing Earn open up about his problems put a lot in a very different perspective. He thought he needed that, but it turns out he’s still not OK.

Episode Grade: A
